Mark Deliduka Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 I like it! There's nothing like working on those old models for a trip down Memory Lane! I'll be watching this one!
Ron Bell Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 Good luck. Can't attest to the "golden" part, but it's an "oldie" anyway. I will watch with interest as I have been thinking of doing one of these in RAF markings.
Guest PetrolGator Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 Steve, I love watching your builds here, and on Facebook. Keep up the "in progress" pictures!
stefanwest Posted July 26, 2013 Author Report Posted July 26, 2013 Some more progress. Also figuring out a way to add weight. Plus I made a new painting jig based what I saw on another website.
Ron Bell Posted July 26, 2013 Report Posted July 26, 2013 Nice job on that rather sparse kit interior. I'll be watching how you handle all that glass in the front. Airfix clear parts are notorious for not fitting well.
Mark Deliduka Posted July 26, 2013 Report Posted July 26, 2013 Wow, looking good! Ya gotta love Airfix kits!
PawelP Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Some more progress. Also figuring out a way to add weight. Plus I made a new painting jig based what I saw on another website. Now I have Curtiss H-75 from old Heller on my workbench ... You have interesting tips for vintage kits ...
ghodges Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 I'm loving your approach to this! Simplistic enough to get done quickly, but adding stuff that will be visible and/or catch the eye. You're getting a lot from that oldie! GIL
Mark Deliduka Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 I love the extra detail! Way to go, keeping it simple while enhancing the model overall. Brilliant job getting those clear parts so well aligned as well. Most impressive!
stefanwest Posted July 30, 2013 Author Report Posted July 30, 2013 Working on the main canopies. Just a few more touch ups and they will be ready for masking.
stefanwest Posted August 7, 2013 Author Report Posted August 7, 2013 Current progress. Test fitted the pre painted engines. Filling in gaps.
Mark Deliduka Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 Fantastic! You really did an excellent job on that canopy!
stefanwest Posted August 8, 2013 Author Report Posted August 8, 2013 Test fitting the pre paint Turrent and checking out my antenna pole.
Guest PetrolGator Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 Looking good. I love seeing older kits done up like this.
stefanwest Posted August 11, 2013 Author Report Posted August 11, 2013 Some more progress. In the rivet replacement phase.
ghodges Posted August 11, 2013 Report Posted August 11, 2013 Amazing! That's going to make a lot of people scratch their heads when it's first seen! GIL
stefanwest Posted August 11, 2013 Author Report Posted August 11, 2013 Adding the rivets back does kind of hide the fact that I sanded too much off in certain areas. I am hoping once I spray Alclad, it won't be that noticeable.
Mark Deliduka Posted August 11, 2013 Report Posted August 11, 2013 That's a brilliant idea of replacing rivets! What material did you use? Mr. Surfacer? Outstanding!
