Ron Bell Posted March 13, 2013 Report Posted March 13, 2013 (edited) This kit has more #$%& parts! For example, each bogie assembly has eight parts in 1/76 scale. And there are tiny ones at that! If you don't have fine tweezers and a lot of patience, I'd steer clear of this kit. Now, that being said, this is a nice little kit. Fit is good, except for the transmission cover. On the real thing, it's in four parts. In the kit its in 6! It took quite a bit of test fitting, filing, sanding and putty to get it to fit well. It's obvious that UM intends to release a whole line of Shermans by the way the hull vision slots are molded as a separate piece, the cover for the hull mg position is a separate part, and the turret hatches are all separate parts to allow for no or a different loader's hatch or different commander's hatches. There is a small PE fret and they even include forms to bend the headlight guards and return track guides for the tops of the bogies. All tools are molded separately. The stowage on the rear deck is not included. The length and link tracks are also made to allow for the different sized hulls of the various marks. So, here it is. Edited March 18, 2013 by Ron Bell
DennisTennant Posted March 14, 2013 Report Posted March 14, 2013 Nice job! It does look like a fiddly project.
Mark Deliduka Posted March 18, 2013 Report Posted March 18, 2013 Ron, welcome to my world! As I recall though, UM only makes models in 1/72 scale. I have two Shermans of theirs I have started, but one has the wrong parts inside the kit, making it impossible to build. Still considering options to get around that though. You did an outstanding job on this model. Way to go.
Ron Bell Posted March 18, 2013 Author Report Posted March 18, 2013 Good catch on the scale. Mark. I've changed the title to reflect that.
802chrisg Posted March 18, 2013 Report Posted March 18, 2013 Well done Ron, That is a lot of parts for 1/72 scale. One of the reason I steer clear of small scalle and only do 1/35 scale. Too Tiny!!!!
