  1. Finished this Tam 1/48 51D today. I've been home with a bladder AND prostate infection (turning 40 is starting to suck) so I've had the time. I used Eduards PE cockpit set, a resin seat, resin wheels, piped the drop tanks and used hypo tubing for the guns. I tried Hawkeyes Talon Metallic paints for the first time. Took some time to get used to them but learned for next time. Also used the polish powders for a little extra shine. Comments welcomed... Andy

    P-51d Progress...

Actually, I'm gonna use a set from the Hase kit. It's the "Grim Reaper" version.
  3. This is Tamiya's P-51 1/48. I also have the Hase kit and comparing both, Tamiya seems the better choice. More crisp detail and better fit. I used Eduards PE cockpit set which had to be modified a little since it was for the Hase kit. First time using a resin cast seat. I like the way it looks and the effect is pretty convincing. Andy
  4. Finished this one today. It's the weekend edition 1/48 Yak-3. It's by no means a weekend build, more like two weeks. However, I was impressed with the kit. Very nice fit, decals and detail for only $12. The only real issue is the fuselage halves are a tad warped which puts the rear stabilizers and rudder at a noticable canter. It's not detectable til everything is together by which time, nothing can be done. The finish is MM acryls with airbrushed and pastel weathering. The mud on the wheels and struts is my pigment/scenic glue mixture. Comments welcomed... Andy
  5. Well, another year shot in the rear! This is my contribution to the hobby for '08. I hope '09 is a good year for everyone as well. Andy http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f328/auseman/Rextopright.jpg[/img
  6. Looking great so far. Better you than me though! Lots o' work ahead of you. Andy
  7. You're right, it does remind me of the Austin Powers counterpart. I wouldn't even want to attempt masking and painting the British flag on a car. Andy
  8. Took a break from my usual planes and quick built this one. It's a Revell snap tite kit that was given to me. I will say I was impressed with the molding and fit. It's better than most standard kits. The body finish is Alalcad duraluminum and the wheels are airframe aluminum. The stars and stripes were masked and painted with enamels. I was just having fun with this one for a change of pace. Comments welcomed... Andy
  9. Good idea. However, I was thinking about doing a couple more and make Xmas ornaments out of them. Andy
  10. Saw this in my not so LHS and had to get it. This was my "comfort build" after boxing up my last project that gave me fits. It was a fun little kit but was NOT Hase's usual quality and fit. Masking the egg shape camo was a challenge. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it. The wife said it is "cute" Andy
  11. Top notch work Gil. The overall finish is very clean and sharp. Nice to see some of your work too. Andy
  12. Thanks for all the input guys...a big help Andy

    190d Progress...

This is Hase's 1/32 190D-9. This was one of those rare days where I sat at my bench from 9am to 8pm (with a few breaks) and finished this pit. I used Eduard's PE dash set. I also scratchbuilt the seatbelts, oxygen regulator, and the map compartment w/strap. Andy This is Aires resin engine kit that I will attempt also.
  15. Thanks for the kind words guys.... Andy
  16. Thanks for the kind comments guys... Andy
  17. Thanks James....this one took about 2 months but I spent a lot of time on it during those 2 months. Probably looking at 50+ hours on it. Andy
  18. This is Tamiya's 1/48 Rex with spinning prop action. Something a little different. The kit was okay but not as easy as everyone claims, at least for me. The finish is MM enamels and acrylics with an Alclad base coat. The insignias were painted on as well. The weathering is salt-chipping, airbrushed post shading and some pastels. A rust colored wash was used to simulate some corrosion on the floats. The water effect on the base is a kleenex sprayed down with water based glue. That gave the tissue a wavey effect. Then painted with sea blue and brushed white for the wave caps. Then a clear gloss coat to finish. This was one of those builds I just couldn't get into but finished it anyway. It's not my best but I still enjoyed it. Comments and crit welcomed... Andy
  19. I would like to make my own spray booth and need a starting point. Any simple designs or ideas?? Thanks, Andy
  20. This is AM's 1/48 Avenger. I took it a step further and added a complete interior and removed a section of fuselage so the belly interior could be seen. I used the super PE set, scratchbuilt details and figures from Verllinden. The finish is MM acrylics. I found an actual picture of #21 and modeled the kit after that plane. The weathering portrayed came directly from the picture. Comments and crit welcomed... Andy
  21. This is Revell's new 1968 Dodge Charger kit that came out not too long ago. I've been wanting to do the Charger from the movie Blade for some time...and here it is. The kit is superb and very well done. I detailed the engine with a distributor, wires, hoses and a filter. The rims and tires are aftermarket as well. The finish is satin acrylic black witj Alclad trim. Comments and crit welcomed... Andy
