  1. Just wanted to throw this out there for discussion. I saw some talk on another forum about this past weekend's show in Indy and how someone bought out entire tables early on in the show. IS this a general issues across the country? If so should we consider mending rules/guidelines to restrict buying out tables to a time limit? IE someone said Cincinnati has the option to buy out a table only after 12 PM. Which can give anyone time to browse through all the vendors at least twice (IMO). I've been to a few shows and I know a guy who walks around for the sole purpose of buying out tables to re-sell on eBay and I know the vendors are there to make money and a buy out could almost be a dream to some of them. I don't want to deter people from doing that. But I am curious as to what the general consensus is on this. thanks all Tom PS moderators if this is in the wrong forum please advise, I wasn't really sure where to post it.
  2. haha i feel even worse now! I apologize! Get anything good while here? Tom
  3. wow Dave i'm so sorry I used to get email notifications when someone respond's to these posts. I didn't get one for this. I have however found someone who was willing to part with the pieces. So I should have them on hand soon. Thank you for offering though! Tom
  4. Soooo this is going to be a long shot, but I'm working on the A3D Skywarrior (1/48 Trumpeter) that was given to me by a friend who passed away. I'm trying to make it in time for Blizzcon ( Feb 20th) and as I'm working I finally realize I'm missing one of the wheel rims for the front landing gear. Would anyone be willing to part with one rim? I know this is a stretch, but I was hoping I'd be able to finish this in time for the show (since he was a Columbus member and judge) for his memory. Please let me know. Ps I know there are resin wheels, I'm not a big resin fan was hoping to build the kit OOB. thanks Tom
  5. Unfortunately, my first hobby store was hobbytown USA, but at the time the people who owned it from what I remember really enjoyed the modeling hobby not the RC part of it. It's become very disappointing to go to now, and I only go there if I have a gift card. I much prefer to shop at Stewart's Hobbies in Willoughby now, love the people who own it, very down to earth nice people. But that being said I guess Hobbyland was my first REAL model store. oh the friday memories... i miss living in Columbus.
  6. I understand your disappointment and sympathize with you. I've heard a lot of people wishing that san diego would place a bid for the nationals but i've also heard they can't get their hotel prices down and that their venue costs are astronomical. Which from what i've heard is just how the west coast is.
  7. True, but I'm just saying that I'm not going to spend 6 days(out and back) driving to go the Nat's. That 4 additional hotel nights and gas. Phoenix would have been an easy days drive. Not that it matters to anyone but we west coasters but that means that there will have been at least 5 middle or east Nats until we get something we can drive to reasonably. Yea, I know west coast is not convenient for the east coasters. I'm just kind of disappointed that they didn't give a little more consideration to Phoenix. I got a bit excited when Phoenix bid. I'm just disappointed, but I am sure the modelers from the flyover states are excited. yeah that's understandable but I think they did give both a reasonable amount of consideration and if you dont want to spend the 6 day trip to go then you could fly that would save you $$ on your trip. It's not that I don't think I would like to go to Omaha, I'm just disappointed that they haven't had something a little closer to the left coast. It will have been a while before another one is within reasonable driving distance. just curious, what is considered reasonable? To me reasonable (a day trip) is between 12-15 hours. Did you have the chance to go to Colorado?

  9. Omaha is as pretty much dead center as you get. to drive from Boston to Omaha it's about 21 hours to drive from San Marcos to Omaha it's 22 hours. Not sure how much more centralized you can get than that. just my 2 cents.
  10. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y269/wing_nut_5o/2015%20IMPS%20Nats/DSCN7939.jpg that was best of show. -Tom
  11. These are from when I was roughly 10-13, so 15-18 years ago...
  12. fantastic but I thought the B-47 was the Stratojet not the stratofortress (saw your post on hyperscale, j/w)
  13. they could do it in 48th scale too that would be impressive :-P
  14. wow that would be incredible if someone would come out with that i would be so excited!
  15. well... ill have you know that I went and got the Tu-22 at Blizzardcon!!!! so there.... consider the bomber set complete! Don't forget this: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/258113-landm-resin-kits-tu-22b-blinder nah i build all of my kits out of box. never upgrade.
  16. i'm always willing to try anything. I've never done a resin or vac kit, but I dont really know what goes into vac kits either.
  17. Hold on there my young Padawan. You cannot claim to be complete without a Tu-22, and don't go claiming that you are covered with the Tu-22M, they are not the same plane, despite what those pesky Russkies may say. You too must deal with the old Esci kit, Hahahahahapshhhhh they're practically the same thing! i've done my research... close enough for government work :-D :gold-plane: Buck buck buck bakaaaw! well... ill have you know that I went and got the Tu-22 at Blizzardcon!!!! so there.... consider the bomber set complete!
  18. i'd spend $100-$150 for each kit, doesn't' need a detailed interior just something that isn't the $200-$400 for anigrand's kits.
  19. beautiful! is this going to be at nationals?
  20. I know we're still 4 days out, but they're predicting 36° and 1-3 inches of snow for Blizzcon. I'm not sure there could be a more perfect name for this show.
  21. I think i'm a little too excited for Blizzcon this year. and i'm getting heavy pressure from the lady friend to enter a model *gulp*. I dont think i can do it!

  23. Hi Dave! I actually read these when i started to get frustrated with this kit back in December. They were insightful (as usual) But for some reason I kept coming across problem after problem with this kit. I have all 3 kits and i've noticed the B (The link you posted) is constructed differently. For the C the body is 2 pieces and on the B it's 4 pieces (using memory right now as i'm at work :D ) and if the body fit near the exhaust it didn't fit at the canopy and vice versa. Then the panels that are placed near the intakes also didn't fit properly so i needed a lot of putty to fix that. the only thing i didn't have issues with were the wings, they were a little off like your review says. but again putty worked for me. I'm not a fan of the way the horizontal stabilizers and vertical stabilizers are like puzzle pieces (never been a fan of that kind of construction). So i had issues with those. the bomb bay and gear doors didn't fit properly some of them hang off instead of being glued properly. the decals which for some reason I was given two sheets, had issues all over. some of the decals were bleeding badly and then the ones i could use like i said ripped apart when trying to place them on there. After that put the vertical stabilizers on and they didn't fit properly and I could have gone back and worked on them but just said screw it because I was just about done with the kit and made it fit as best as it could. The canopy was a "yup i'm just done" and i glued it and said. TA DA! I've heard a lot of bad reviews of this kit from forums and talking with other people. Maybe I did get a bad shot but I was just really disappointed in how this turned out. I really high hopes for this kit because I'm a big jet fan, I hope the A and B are better. I'll probably tackle the simpler A before I go to the B. But regardless I pushed through and finished it chalking it up to a model lesson. Was able to improve my putty skills and sanding techniques. So not a complete loss... ON TO THE NEXT ONE! Tom
  24. my first Kittyhawk kit and to be completely honest it will be my last for a very long time. I am no expert by any means and I struggled extremely hard with this kit. the decals (nearly everything besides the ones that said "no step" ripped on some part, the canopy didn't fit properly, the bomb bay doors didn't fit properly, the vertical stabilizers didn't fit properly, the two halve fuselages didn't fit properly. it was just one nightmare after another. I also dont think the paint scheme is right but it was what was told in the instructions (and I typically like to go off those without deviation i'm an out of the box kind of builder). I would not recommend a Kittyhawk kit to anyone nor will I be buying one in the future. Extremely disappointed in the quality of the build for how much it cost. I hope kittyhawk can work on a better product. Just my two cents.
