Piddly, but necessary work continues...... This pic shows the 3D printed Scarf rings bought for this project, the completed engine oil cooler cover (now with back plate). the scratchbuilt tail hook, and though hard to see the 3 windshields made and the tape pattern used to make them. Here's a test "sitting" of the windshields and Scarf ring. Note that 2 vertical posts have been added to the rear cockpit sides to support it. Test fitting the tail hook, which has a small wire post on the underside to serve as a locating pin. Still have a good amount of engine detailing to do too..... but I may just go ahead and get the fuselage glued to the bottom wing just so I can take something resembling an airplane to our model meeting Saturday! More pics then! Gil

The Paasche H appears to be a very good, reliable and robust workhorse for the scale modeller. Over here in the UK, the Paasche company never really bothered pushing their airbrush products, even when Badger was becoming popular and aggressively marketed to the UK model making community back in the 1970's. In my opinion Paasche could have done well at that time and have gained a good slice of the UP market. Aerograph branded airbrushes were made in the UK by DeVillbiss back then. High quality but only pushed toward the graphic design and art markets. They realised a little late and developed the Sprite aimed for scale modellers. Since then Iwata and Harder&Steenbeck appear to be favoured more than most others. There are of course other good quality airbrushes out there, but also a lot of cheap and nasty stuff too !

Found what I needed.... now to get a list of the parts and I'll submit my order.

Are you making all of the discs by cutting them from rod or punching them out from sheet plastic? Gil

Scale Aircraft Conversions has been creating parts for modelers since 1990 and has long supported the IPMS-USA Review Corps with their items for review. The white metal parts are meant to replicate the original kit parts, but with the additional strength of being metal instead of plastic. There is also an advantage in that the metal gear can be slightly bent, if necessary, once installed to allow for improved positioning. View the full review

I am familiar with Scale Aircraft Conversions but have never used any of their products. Having a Fine Molds Ki-43 III, I was keen to compare these metal landing gear parts to the kit parts provided by Fine Molds. The SAC landing gear provides additional strength being metal, and the ability to slightly bend the gear if needed. Upon close inspection, the landing gear provided by Fine Molds is my preference over the metal landing gear offered by Scale Aircraft Conversions. In my sample, the metal landing gear has mold part lines, heavy pitting, and a shape that is more oval than round. One of my struts had a curve coming out of the packaging, but this was easily bent back to shape. View the full review

Agree that Paasche H1 is a classic. I'll try to restore these airbrushes to working condition, if for no other reason than to honor my brother's memory. If I can get them back to working conditions I'd even use them from time to time.

I’m with you, Ron. To me, the single action Paasche H1 is the AK -47 of airbrushes: neglect it, abuse it, fail to clean it adequately- it works perfectly every time. And I have done some pretty fine work with the small tip and obtained great results. After several flirtations with fancier, balky and temperamental double action airbrush’s, I now use the Paasche H1 exclusively! Nick
