ghodges Posted April 4, 2025 Report Posted April 4, 2025 (edited) Just completed this CV (Charl Vivier... local club member) 3D printed 1/48 resin M-46 Patton tank. He printed it in just 6 parts consisting of the hull, 1-piece tracks and running gear for each side, turret, gun barrel and mantlet, and .50cal machine gun. THAT, as primarily an airplane builder, I found to be VERY enticing since it would be more of a painting exercise than a tank building project! I took the Korean War tiger scheme from various internet pics of the real Pattons and simplified it a bit for my build. Many schemes include additional white, red, or orange stripes along with the black ones.... but I thought those might complicate things a bit for me and just stuck to the black ones. I'm guessing some Patton crews may have done the same simply because of time or more limited paint supplies. Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! 😉 I used OD and Testors Flat Yellow for the main scheme. The eyes, mouth, teeth, and claws were all done by hand brushing with paint. The tiger striping was done with a fine point black Sharpie pen. The tracks were painted Testors Steel and then given heavy washes of black and brown and a final rubbing with dark gray pastel over the treads themselves. I can't account for the accuracy of any of these, but I'm happy overall with the results. In any case, it's a colorful addition to my growing collection of 1/48 armor! Critiques, questions, and comments welcome as always! Gil Edited April 18, 2025 by ghodges
