Nick Filippone Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 I e-mailed the curator of the San Diego Air Museum. They have a Standard J-1 built for "The Spirit of St. Louis" which was filmed in 1955. This was in response to my query about a J -1 that was marked A-190 and was once in the Tallmantz collection. It is certainly possible that it was subsequently modified for "Wings of Eagles" filmed the next year. I am now waiting for a response from the San Diego Museum for hopefully more specific info. The curator indicated, by the way, that this aircraft was built for The Spirit..." by an Otto Turner. Does this name mean anything to any of you? Cheers. Nick Filippone
jcorley Posted January 7, 2014 Author Report Posted January 7, 2014 Yeah, he's the guy that taught Lindberg to fly... it was kinda fitting he built the replica and they went flying again during the filming of the movie. Not the same plane, but "close enough"
jcorley Posted January 7, 2014 Author Report Posted January 7, 2014 Ratz, I couldn't have done it without the clues from Nick & Art via Nick
