I still recall the most sage advice was given in the old Memphis IPMS pub "Leading Edge": When thinning paint: the two should mix easily and readily. If you get beading, clumping, gumminess, separate layers of clear and paint, smoking fumes or an explosion; it's safe to assume that that paint and thinner is NOT compatible! GIL
