  1. Welcome aboard and perhaps you can share some images of some of those older models?
  2. Dispite temperatures in the upper 20's.... Dispite traffic jams worthy of the George Washington Bridge Lane Closure issue.... Dispite full hotels/motels caused by motorists stranded due to the above causes..... IPMS SWAMP hosted another in a long line of successful and very enjoyable CALMEX contests. Thanks to the folks on IPMS SWAMP, and the 3 hr traffic jam I was stuck in was washed away with the first bite of the gumbo served at lunch. The models were outstanding, the vendor room was full, and the crowd was lively and full of humor. Thanks Guys! See you next year!
  3. Same thing. You are what you eat.
  4. Just consider the reward awaiting you at the event....a big steaming bowl of Gumbo!
  5. Bruce, There are two IPMS chapters in the Portland area....go to the IPMS home page and click on the Chapter and RC Directory button, then click on Oregon when the map appears. Welcome aboard!
  6. UMM has some fantastic tools. The scriber is an excellent tool and easy to use.
  7. A classic! Makes me smile.
  8. Then may I recommend that your "title" be "The Shredder". I'm seeing some interesting decal options for some Steam Punk armor featuring "The Shredder".
  9. I notice that the announcement regarding applications for the Treasurer's position has been removed. Do we have a new Treasurer?
  10. Kevin, You can, I believe, block posts made by anyone that you do not wish to see. That would take care of your issues.
  11. Thanks. It was a fun build!
  12. Kevin, the statement is inconsistent with the fact that you use an "alias" as an identifier and that your comment, itself, seems to fall into the exact category which you deplore. If you don't want to spend time on a post then you can certainly skip it. No harm is done by the use of the new "titles" and no harm is done by a person making, what may seem to you, to be an innocuous post.
  13. Mark's ok, even though he builds things with treads.....and not WWII era at that! Thinking about an 88mm Flak Gun....don't know....got several other types of models on the workbench now....
  14. Yeah...but mine can float and yours makes a great 30 ton anchor! And besides, your "finish" is superior and mine is an "I don't care." Project. (An IDC project is one done just for the fun of it with the final outcome irrelevant to the enjoyment.) Hmm... perhaps my next foray into the armor arena will be a gun of some type. .... we'll see.
  15. I don't always build armor, but when I do I usually build something without tracks. Here is the recently finished Tamiya Type 166 Schwimmwagen in 35th scale. Use the link to view the 4 images within the slide show. Slideshow link = http://s192.photobucket.com/user/dmontgomery_photo/slideshow/Completions%202014/Type%20166%20Schwimmwagen
  16. Mark, I agree, but then the pilot was an Ace and probably wasn't too worried about hiding. C.R. Caldwell was his name. When painting and building the model I thought that the white leading edge would be a real headache to keep clean, and it did present some interesting handling challenges....so I went thru quite a number of the latex gloves during construction keeping it bright and clean....only to add weathering as the project came to an end. A fun kit to build!
  17. I found the kit to be rather easy to assemble. The fit was very good and the engraved detail is crisp and clean. The elevators were molded into the stabs, both rt and lft, and since the elevators drooped when the Spit was at rest I had to remove them. That's not too tricky even though the cuts have multiple angles. The rudder is a separate piece so it can be adjusted as the builder wishes. The decals were a waste, but that is due to the age of the kit and the fact that it has been exposed to severe heat and humidity. I've done some other ICM kits new off the shelf and didn't have any decal issues. One needs to be cautious though. I found a misspelled word on one of the decals that goes on the under-surface of the wing. I would not have caught it except that I was working under an Optivisor at the time. The cockpit is nicely detailed, as is the engine. I left the engine out of the build....it can't be seen without opening some access covers and I'm not into that. The clear parts are problematic. Again, that may be because of the heat/humidity but they were hazy. A gentle scrub with some 12,000 grit and a bath in Future did the trick. I enjoy ICM kits. They are not difficult to build, have very nice detail, and fit very well. Of course, the "fit" tolerances were much tighter than on some kits and one must be cautious getting the fit done properly before gluing, but that isn't much of an issue, even for a slacker builder like myself.
  18. It's been a while since this kit was started, lots of interruptions, but the project is now completed. This is the ICM Spitfire Mk. VIII in 1/48th scale. I've included a link to the photo album at Photobucket so that you can view the dozen or so images, ( http://s192.photobucket.com/user/dmontgomery_photo/slideshow/Completions%202014 ) and that link should take you to a slideshow of those images.
  19. Put a sea-scape background behind that thing and it would look like a real deck scene!
  20. 4ft'er? 4FT'ER?! That beast was six feet long and had already tied his bib around his neck, and was picking up the salt and pepper shakers! But through fast thinking and quick action I secured my safety. I turned and ran away squawking like a duck. I hear gators don't like duck meat. Weinie. Oh yeah?! OH YEAH!? Well......ah....er.....I got nothin'
  21. Saw a 25ft Crocodile in Australia.....now that's big. Was in some "game park" along the hiway...
