I have always liked Tester's Dullcoat, but sometimes it dries to a semi-matte rather than a dead flat finish. I recently read on-line another modeler say that he lets a bottle of Tester's Dullcoat sit until the "flattening agent" (you know what I mean, all that 'stuff' that gathers at the bottom of the bottle) settles to the bottom. Then he draws/pours off a quantity of the solvent. This increases the concentration of the flattening agent and depending on how much you draw off, the finish that can vary all the way up to dead flat. I decided to give this a try. I took a new bottle of Dullcoat which had settled completely and poured off about 1/3 to 1/2 of the carrier/solvent. I was a bit afraid that it might be spotty or have flecks of flattening agent in the finish so I tested it on a scrap piece of plastic with a flat paint on one side and a high gloss black on the other. i thinned the Dullcoat as normal for my airbrush and gave each finish a coat. The matte finish was still matte, no surprise. But the high gloss dried to a DEAD FLAT and there was no flaking or spotting on either finish. I then tried it on my current project that had gloss and matte surfaces plus decals and I got an even dead flat finish over all. 60 some odd years of modeling and I am still learning.

3 very mundane pics...... But they show a very MAJOR step forward in that the fuselage halves are together and the first coat of primer applied! It even sort of resembles an aircraft fuselage! The next steps are to finish applying most of the features that still need to be added to the fuselage, or at least get their areas ready. These are things like the the platform between the pilot and gunner's cockpits, tail plane brace brackets, elevator and rudder control wire holes, the reinforcing strip around the nose, making the windshields, tail wheel socket, etc. It doesn't look like much, but you can see how much work was needed JUST to make this step possible if you glance back to the beginning. Hopefully I'll make progress at a little better rate from here to the end. Gil

Found it! Pretty cool. And your scratch-built depiction is spot on. And just in time, too. It looks like Aosima is going to release versions in 1/72 AND 1/48. Way to stay ahead of the curve!

This rather imposing triple kit package of the G7117, Studebaker US6-U3, and Studebaker US6-U5 trucks, comes in an average sized box with a nice artist rendering of the three trucks on the outside, with several pictures and a detailed description of what you get inside. Inside there are three stuffed plastic bags containing the individual, and the three instruction manuals that correspond to them. The sprues at first glance look well packaged with cushioning tape wrapped around the delicate parts, no etched fret, but a well rendered Decal Sheet for multiple marking options.
