A friend gave me some models that a friend of his had already started. In this case, the center "pod" was together, the cockpit done and the canopy was in place. It sat on my shelf for a few months (years?), but being between projects, I dragged it out to fiddle with. One thing led to another and, voila, I got it finished. That's Tamiya AS-12 silver and Testers Florescent Orange. I used the Testers because I didn't have access to the Humbrol color that was called out and it was as close as I could get. It may be a little too light, but, meh, it's just going to sit on my shelf. After having done some of these new Airfix kits I have learned to go slowly, study the instructions and do what they tell you when they tell you. If you don't, well, bad things can happen. In this case the only really bad thing was the previous owner hadn't put any weight in the nose so it's a tail sitter, thus the clear plastic prop under the tail. This little bugger has somewhere north of 60 odd decals on it, some literally the size of a pin head. Tedious work, that. In the end, it turned out pretty nice I think.

Today’s progress report: I went and did touch ups on the OD/Neutral Gray demarcation line, then removed the masking from the white theater ID marking areas Next up is a gloss coat on and then getting it ready for decals…

Here's a WC 63 for comparison. 1/25 scale scratch built mostly of Evergreen plastic and some sheet brass thrown in for good measure.

ICM has been absolutely nailing it with new kits and products despite operating in a war zone amidst constant violence and destruction. This latest series of Hampden aircraft models are no exception, although I fear I chose the wrong kit to pick back up aircraft modeling after years away building armor, but more on that later! What’s Inside the BoxThe kit comes in a top-opening box under the cereal-box thick cardboard cover featuring the cover art. Inside the flap are ten grey plastic sprues - with some duplicated, as well as two clear sprues, and a large decal sheet for the four schemes. I've had that happen with some MCW lacquers from bottles that had been around for a few years but also with Ace Hardware interior metallic that I had just purchased and decanted to spray from my airbrush. I wrote it off as "old paint" with the MCW but as long as spray paint still has gas I'm guessing there's no oxygen there so it left me "back to baffled".

The fluorescent paints act a little odd sometimes...

In The Box The kit comes in a sturdy 12” x 8” x 5” box with an illustration of the Tsubaki figure. Images of the finished model can be found on the box sides. Like Gundam kits, it comes molded in multiple colors so that a nicely finished model can be built right out of the box with minimal work. Both painted and unpainted images of the kit are shown on the sides of the box. The kit comes with thirty nine individually bagged sprues molded in eight colors. The engineering of the parts is designed to emulate the paint breaks of the figures complex color scheme. The runners are molded in POM, PVC and ABS and all the parts are designed to be snap fit. Regular solvent based glue will not affect these types of plastic. Figure kits are meant to be posable, thus tougher plastics are necessary so that the joints will both hold a pose and be durable.
