I had the basic construction on this kit completed before I attended the convention while the paint and decals were added after I returned from Orlando. This is the 1/48th Fw-190A-3 by Tamiya....

Dick Montgomery Posted September 2, 2012 Author Report Posted September 2, 2012 I really can't chalk up the inspirational factor of a convention to one entry or even a group of entries. I really didn't even study the aircraft at all as I had plans to help judge in the Sci-Fi Space area. But one thing I did notice as I viewed the space stuff....the quality of construction...the quality of decal application, and the exceptional quality of the paint jobs! Seeing all of the things that my fellow members can do was inspirational. I always return home with a desire to step up my own effort. I found this scheme to be challenging, at least for me, and that's how I wanted to respond to that inspiration. I wanted to try something challenging. It does not matter if the kit is auto, armor, aircraft, ship, or whatever.....there are certain constants that one can see. Construction without misalignment, seams, or glue stains..... paint that is consistent, smooth, feathered well or delineated sharply, decals in the proper place, in correct alignment, and with no silvering. I'm just listing the usual gang of suspects here...but to do all of them and at a high level of quality is always a challenge and always satisfying when achieved. I can put my Judge's glasses on and ID issues with my Fw-190, but then that only serves to help me focus on things that require improvement on the next model.....which, BTW, is laying here next to the keyboard! Some people ask "why IPMS?" and this story of inspiration, growth, and achievement (at least achievement at some improved level) is my reply. And now back to the next project!!!!
