Ron Bell Posted January 17 Report Posted January 17 This is the old Revell kit cleaned up and re-released by Atlantis. It's a relatively simple kit of a little known rocket that played a pretty big role in the US space program. It was used to measure and test the stresses on orbital reentry objects. The missile was launched at an angle to get the appropriate trajectory for the re-entry desired. The extra motors strapped onto its waist provided spin stability. The launch pad is nicely done and actually has more parts than the missile. Three figures are provided, two working at a tracking telescope which would never have been deployed anywhere neat the actual launch site, and a third figure that is a mystery to me. His pose is bizarre and doesn't fit anywhere. To me he looks like some sort of overgrown chimpanzee waving his arms about. A little comic relief at least.
Piedmont Posted January 18 Report Posted January 18 Excellent build, Ron! The X-17 kit is a classic. I believe the Atlantis repop is the first time this kit has been available since its original run from Revell. Have fun modeling! Mike
Dick Montgomery Posted January 19 Report Posted January 19 The launch pad paintjob is outstanding! As to Monkey Man...no clue!
