Ron Bell
I'm working on a USS Olympia for an IPMS review and the colors called for are the pre-Spanish-American War white overall with buff funnels and masts. I know she actually fought in grey, which aroused my curiosity. She was in, I think, Hong Kong harbor when she got the orders to go to Manila and at that time she would have been white. With all hands turned to, I assume, how long would it actually take to paint her grey? Edited January 19, 2014 by Ron Bell
802chrisg
Being a former Navyman, I would say with the size of the crew back then and all hands turning two, about two days or less would be my guess. Funny the two basic things I took from the Navy besides my actual job training was that every sailor is a painter and a firefighter. Being a builder and a tradesman now is probably why I hate painting. Not that I'm not good at it, just that I have done way to much of it.
