Ron Bell Posted June 4, 2013 Report Posted June 4, 2013 I've got a collection of Cromwells and their derivatives going and I needed a Charioteer. That was an attempt to give the Territorial Army (UK reserves) the new 20 pdr that was on the Centurion. A new turret was fashioned for the Cromwell that fit the gun. It was not very heavily armored and was classed as a Tank Destroyer. Only used by the Territorials, it was also exported to Finland and Jordan. It was a stop gap measure that didn't have much success. The chassis was overloaded and Centurions soon became available anyway. This is the Revell 1/72 Cromwell (great kit) with the BR Charioteer conversion. You get a resin turret and upper hull, turned aluminum barrel and various white metal parts. The upper hull part is useless as it is warped in three axises, so you have to convert the Cromwell Type A hull to a later version with the two swinging hatches for the driver and co-driver. There's assorted and sundry other work done to detail it out and when it's done, it looks like a Charioteer.
