Was very easy to mask and paint before the cowling was installed...........the instructions wanted you to attempt putting a decal around the cowling, dua! SteveK

Hello again, Just finished this little Russian fighter the I-16, also called the "Donkey" as well as the "Rata or Rat" The plane as well as the kit were pretty simple. I did detail a couple things, panels lines in the cowling, rivets on the wings and horizontal stabs as well as adding tape seat belts. Had to modify the side gear covers to fit correctly into the main covers. And the cables for the manual retractable gear! This has to be the smallest aircraft in my limited collection so far. The wing span is almost half of the Val I just completed. My understanding is in the 30's it held it's own until it faced the A6M2 Zero. Thanks for Looking SteveK

Time of the markings to "my understanding" were prewar, and at Pearl Habor, as far as to what unit, sorry I'm to lazy and or not inquisitive enough to dig that deep.... Thanks again for the welcome and comments ~S~ SteveK

Very nice work so far and I'm very much wanting to see the finished product! Close up pictures are the only way to go, enjoy being able to see one's handy work at the detail items. Great pics; SteveK

LOL the canopy is what I'm most disappointed in. I used a new technique of scotch tape and didn't like it. Very hard to removed and I marked up the "glass" Thanks SteveK

I loved the kit, it was a joy to build, very little clean up and everything fell together. Only thing I would do different, would be to install P.E. gun sights, they are more blobs of plastics than "steel" rims...... Thanks SteveK

The color is still something that is up in the air for me, although the pics do show it some what brighter that real life. Thanks for the comments! SteveK

On my Val I cut "sawed" 50% to 75% thought the top of the seam, This enable me to fold them up or "open". On the inside of the flap fold I cut "sawed" two trenches / ditches / groves what ever you want to call them at a right angle to the fold and then filled them with super glue to hold the flap open, worked great for me. SteveK
