Greyhound Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 Here are a few photo's of my latest Project. This is the Batmobile from the 1989[?] Batman Movie staring Micheal Keaton. This is my favorate Batman Movie due to Jack Nicolson's performance as the Joker. the model was bought in 1989 and over several years I purchased or scrounged some additionial items to build this in the way I wanted. Fast forward to 2011 when I needed a project for one of our June San Diego Model Car Club [sDMCC] theme nights - "Been in a Movie". I also used this project as a painting experement to lear to do Panel Fades and Candies. Modifications - I always felt that the Batmobile lacked Firepower to the "six" compared to the dual Ma Duece's in the front! So I used a couple of Verlinden Supertech .30 Cal Browning Machine guns. This requred building a pop open compartment in the base of the rear "wings" and making slide out mounts for the guns. The 30 cals are full kits that require a lot of Photoetch bending of very small parts. I also added "control arms" in the rather plain cockpit to be able to aim the rear guns using a TV display under the dash. I also changed the way that the cockpits opens by creating a top hinge instead of the slide forward method. In addition I placed a real tri hook as the grapple instead of the plasic one in the kit. I also opened up the side Scoops for the Afterburner and added Silver Perforated material in the openings in the scoop above the Cockpit and the sides. The paint was the main reason for doing this. I first did usual clean-up of all the seams, sink marks etc, although this kit does not have much of this. The then sprayed Flat white as a primer, after sanding with 1000 grit pad I masked around all openings such as the forward and rear gun compartments and Grappel compartment and then sprayed them with flat Red. This is where I had 1st problem. I did not mask well and a lot of read seeped under into the white primer! I tried to just sand off the red and just turned it Pink! i finally sanded down those areas to black plastic and re shot with flat white. I then sprayed Testors Silver overall. After Silver dryed I used my Airbrush to spray Tamya gloss black around all the edges or recesses. Then it was time for Testers Transparent Blue using the Airbrush. Normally when spraying Candies/ Transparent paint you want to count the even coats so your coverage is uniform on all panels. I intentionally did not do this, I randomly sprayed coats in uneven way to get dark and lighter areas. This worked better than expected and I will try this again on a more "serious" project. I had a lot of fun building this and the base for it and I did win the "Best theme Night" vote in the club [ no prize, but a nice applause1]. As usual I need to clear some other photo's off other post before I can post these photo's , I will do this shortly. Dan King

ewahl Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 Hi, Dannie, When trying to post a photobucket link for a photo, use the i1100.photobu... link choice and end it with .jpg instead of using the s1100 link choice as above. Good luck. I really want to see the Batmobile. Ed
