Boots Posted October 24, 2025 Report Posted October 24, 2025 (edited) Happy Friday all, Figured I'd dive back into another WWII wingy thing and I decided on Hasegawa’s P-39N. The end goal is, that this all NMF Cobra will represent a training ship based out of Ephrata, Washington's training field. This field saw a alot of aircraft from heavies to fighters and sadly, just my luck, this unit is unknown . The following aftermarket goodies will be used.. Combat Series(formerly BlackBox) interior, Eduard Brassin wheel set and CMKs exterior set(exhaust and hor stabs only). This is where I'm at.. Happy Modeling, Mike Edited December 16, 2025 by Boots
ghodges Posted October 24, 2025 Report Posted October 24, 2025 Good start! I'm guessing you needed to remove the molded in detail on the fuselage interior sides before installing the resin sides? If so, what did you do that with? Also, what's the advantage to the resin tail planes over the kit items? Gil 1

Also, what's the advantage to the resin tail planes over the kit items? Gil Hey Gil! First off, thank you! Correct, I needed to remove the molded on detail and I used an Xacto stencil blade which is used for scraping and removing detail. I opted out of using the kits horizontal stabilizers because with the resin stabs, the ailerons are separate. With that being said, I have the control stick in a slightly pushed forward (down position) so the ailerons will be deflected in a down position. I do apologize, the camera was on 2% when I took these pics. I hope that this answers your questions and thank you for asking! Happy Modeling, Mike 1
ghodges Posted October 25, 2025 Report Posted October 25, 2025 Thanks! Those elevons fit the tail planes so well I couldn't tell they were separate parts! Gil 1
Boots Posted October 25, 2025 Author Report Posted October 25, 2025 You are most welcome Gil! Right? The fit really impressed me as well however, I had to sand down/reshape the ends of the elevators as they were longer than the wing. Gotta love modeling haha Happy Modeling, Mike
Boots Posted December 16, 2025 Author Report Posted December 16, 2025 Update #1 Ok here we go.. I do apologize for the delay but the mancave needed some attention.. 🙄 So I got the interior all painted up, installed and I went ahead and buttoned up the fuselage halves. One thing I did and it was my fault sort of speak. I wanted to drill out the side air vents just in front of the engine access panels and my hand started shaking. Before I knew it, I essentially removed the vent lol. I had a spare clear spure from a Tamiya Spit lying around and so I used both the fuselage lights and voila, I have side engine vents! Before I forget, the P-39N-5 had armored platting behind the pilots head instead of the armored glass and the sole pic of the aircraft that I'm doing had the platting installed. Not sure why Hasegawa raised the main fuel caps(one on each side) on the wings but they did. It took a bit but I sanded the one cap rim down and I'm pleased on how it looks. It's not 100% accurate but at least its flush with the wing! One down, one to go.. Now it's time to start cleaning up the seams and rescribing the panel lines if need be. YAY Glad to be back at my happy place! Happy Modeling, Mike 2
