ghodges Posted October 4, 2024 Report Posted October 4, 2024 (edited) Since I had to wait on decals for the Saberjet, I started in on building the 1/48 Hasagawa P-51D as Miss America, the famous air show and Reno race plane (also, remember the old Cox plastic U-Fly plane?) and finished it this afternoon. The model was built OOTB except that for the 2007 edition of Miss America (as depicted on the decal sheet) the wing tips and the tail plane tips had to be chopped shorter. I also left out the radios on top of the gas tank and the armor plate behind the seat and went with gray for the civilian cockpit color. I also had to manufacture 2 civilian style radio antennas for the model. On to the rest of the pics! The markings were from Draw Decals, which gives the stars, plane numbers, Miss America names, and N#s. The red/white/blue had to be masked and painted. I used Model Master and Testors enamels for that. The model was glossed with future before decaling and then sealed with Alclad Klear Gloss lacquer. Overall this was a fun, fast build that enabled me to get one more built out of the stash. Comments, critiques, and questions welcome as always! Gil Edited October 4, 2024 by ghodges 1
