davenport49 Posted August 23, 2023 Report Posted August 23, 2023 I'm fascinated by the recent discovery of the 109F-4/Z flown by Unteroffizier Hans Pilz and shot down April 1st, 1942. I've found a few illustrations for JG3 aircraft, but only while stationed on the eastern front. Does anyone have information or recommendations on the camouflage for "black 11" of 5.JG3 while stationed in Comiso, Sicily?
ghodges Posted August 23, 2023 Report Posted August 23, 2023 (edited) Unless someone like Barry Numerick (famed BF-109 builder) steps in here, I suggest you go to the Barracuda Face Book page (link below) and ask this question. Not only does Barry hang out there too, but there's a lot of other 109 buffs who, if they can't answer your question directly, may be able to point you in a better direction. https://www.facebook.com/groups/848474938507986 Gil Edited August 23, 2023 by ghodges
Barry Posted August 26, 2023 Report Posted August 26, 2023 Thanks for the endorsement, Gil. I have seen photos of the wreck and by all indications this 109 was in typical 74/75/76 camo. I will check further and confirm. Barry Numerick
Barry Posted August 26, 2023 Report Posted August 26, 2023 Here is a link to further info, including an artist's impression of the last moments of Black 11. It seems to confirm the grey RLM 74/75/76 scheme. https://www.key.aero/article/did-you-know-about-bf-109-discovered-malta
