Zglossip Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 Hey guys I am getting ready to start building a heller Moran and I wanted to depict damage on it . the aircraft is fabric covered and I wanted it to look like it had some torn skin as in a training accident or the mechanic assedent riped it any advice would help
ghodges Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 This biggest problem is that you need to thin the areas that you plan to "damage". That means you need to scrape, sand, or use a motor tool to thin the plastic from the inside to almost "paper" thickness. If you use a motor tool watch the speed, as the high friction can overheat and deform the plastic as you thin it (which is a technique you can use to cause wrinkles if desired). By the way, as the plastic gets thinner, if you hold it up to a bright light you can guage how thin it's getting. Once the plastic is very thin, you can poke holes in it with a pin, or a sharp knife, or any tool that will make the hole appear how you desire. Be sure to poke it from the outside in (like a bullet), unless you're depicting an internal explosion to the part. The only last advice I would add is do NOT put your bullet holes in neat rows, like you see in in old movies! GIL
