  1. Hello I am the lone IPMS member / surviver of an now defunct IPMS club in Fargo, North Dakota. I want to meet with members and chapters nearby to Fargo to network with rebuild and organize a chapter once again. Not my first rodeo here at IPMS chapters formed. A under-used infrastructure, skills education media and club display equipment is still in place to hold meetings, make and takes, swap meets and local contests. First ... I / we start off again with a howdy and a handshake! Don Matthys 32708
  2. More pics loaded to my fliker.com site... Warp Sled lighting: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4668667245/ This 'Glow Tube" assembly is mounted to the outer nacelle sled part. http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4668667187/ Both nacelle shells fitted together and a test fireing of the Warp Sled glow. http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4668667113/ Light test in the dark. http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4668667049/ Results from the paint masking. The upper ribs on the grills needs to be opaque black. It is not as good as I wanted but this is... ONLY A TEST The paint may have chipped because the casting needs to be clean of finger oils and mold release. The paint may also has chiped because it was not fully dried....My bad! http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4668666963/ The front glows red clear part picks up enough ambient light from the glow tube. The paint masking not that effective with plastic stripes... Next plan is to try it masking with professional graphics arts tape .030 wide and maybe felt tip paint marker pens.
  3. I want to use a way to light up the grills with simple elelctronics that don't reqiure inverters or converters and thier special voltages. So I opt for 2 white LEDs pointing down a white straw. Faux Neon. Ingrediants: 2 White LEDs T-1 3mm 2 120 Ohm Resiters 1 White coffee straw 2 Wires, stranded , 6 inches or less http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4666176115/ The straw is cut to a desired length. The two 3mm white LEDs are inserted into the 3mm (ID) coffee straw. 120 ohm resisters are soldured to positive side of LEDs. Then wired up as a parralle circuit. http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4666798706/ Energized! An even glow down the lenghts of the straw. The 120 ohm resisters allows 6 volts DC power to it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/4666798636/
  4. I an doing a side by side comparison build of the AMT kit of the Vulcan Warp shuttle. I built one in the mid 1980's. This time I will build 2...The original kit from back then and the new issued kit form Round 2. I will make modifications to the kits to use lighting with LEDs and simple blinking circuits This links to a photo set of the on going build progress. http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/...57623684139354/
  5. You can buy a lifetime supply of PEWTER foil that has the same malleable characteristics as lead foil. It is way less toxic. Found in craft stores like Michael's and Hobby Lobby. Metal Embossing is the materials intent. The sheet I purchased at a Michael's is the medium weight pewter. Size 9.25 x 12. Made by American Art Clay co. # 50063M Lots of material for Flags, tarps, straps belts and webbing. Since I got a big sheet of pewter now ... I stopped buying bad tasting foreign wines for my lead foil fix.
  6. I have built the Vulcan Shuttle / Warp Drive Sled in the 1980s...the 2nd version that came with water slide decals It's back! I had a 1st issue kit that came with dry transfers (plastic color is white)...And now the new one...Cast in pink styrene with 2 huge decal sheets. I'm currently building a side by side of both kits...One will be painted and marked in StarFleet livery. The new one as a Vulcan diplomatic shuttle. The plan also is to illuminate them with LEDs. The readers of this post can follow the progress of the builds at my Flickr.com photo archives. http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/...57623684139354/
  7. German Engineering... Yeah aint it cool!
  8. Nice! I feel the compulsion to build a landing gear for that kit.
