burner12 Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) I'm trying to make a VF-111 sharks mouth decal. The problem I have is that the mouth goes on a double curve the radome and the IR sensor below. How can I construct it so it will fit on both curves equally? Edited March 12, 2012 by burner12
sumterIII Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 here is one in 1/72 scale http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/MD015
burner12 Posted March 12, 2012 Author Report Posted March 12, 2012 I forgot, I have a 1/48 Phantom and trying to make the decals to avoid having to buy some.
sumterIII Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 Superscale sheet # 48-73 has the sharkmouth your after, maybe someone here has this sheet and can help with the layout, or willing to trade
DaveDeLang Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 How about covering the radome in Tamiya tape as smooth as you can get it. Draw the shark mouth on the tape. Remove the tape without disturbing the drawing Make the decal pattern from the drawing on the tape. You might have to slit it a little to get the compound curved surface to lay flat. You could draw only half of the shark mouth maybe and then flop it to get the other half. That way it would be symetrical.
burner12 Posted March 13, 2012 Author Report Posted March 13, 2012 Hadn't thought of doing the half and half idea. thanks Dave
