RONBO Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 I just started in this kit and I would like to leave everything open on it. Any thoughts? Ronald F. Thorne Jr. Head Bottle Washer.
Guest Pyrman Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Seafoam green - but Polly Scale's "British Sky type S" or MM/ACRYL "RAF Sky type S" will do.
ikar Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 Look at the open rear top hatch area. The same thing with our M-113s: Now the question is.....why do you need the inside colors? Did you come across a model of the 706 the has an interior? The Verlinden only had the driver's area open a little, otherwise it's a block of resin. When I built mine I had to cut off the entire top and add the armor walls front, rear, and side gun mounts and blast doors. Here's a couple shots I took of My vehicle on day while waiting for the rest of my team to load up. Do you have a particular squadron in mind? Not all squadrons had them equipped or painted the same. these vehicles were stationed at Ubon: These were at Korat: These are from U-Tapao: For instance, U-Tapao did not have shields for their M-60s. Also they were prevented from mounting 50 cals by the status of forces agreement. They weren't even supposed to have them to begin with but did have two ready to go in the armory. All you had to do was attach the barrel.
RONBO Posted November 9, 2008 Author Report Posted November 9, 2008 The new Hobby Boss Kits came out about 3 weeks ago. And they have a fair amount of details on the inside. Thanks for the help.
ikar Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Any idea what the "improved" 706 is supposed to look like? The one they call a 706 in vietnam is a V-100. I need at least one of the Air Force version with the slanted top armor and no turret like in the pictures.
RONBO Posted November 12, 2008 Author Report Posted November 12, 2008 They just have the twin 30 cal turret. You would have to build you own top side. The inside has seats and motor cover and a driver section. They also have one with a 90mm gun turret. Ronald Thorne Head Bottle Washer
RickC5 Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 I can't state this definitively, but I don't recall that the V-100s in Vietnam ever had that small, twin-30s turret depicted in the new Hobby Boss model. I thought all had open tops with some M-60 shields, like the posted photos, and that the twin-30s turret was a prototype of some sort. I wonder where Hobby Boss came up with that? Hmmmm....
cbush Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 Doing a google search on v100 in Vietnam will turn up several pictures of the v100 in vietnam with the turret. It seems they were used by MP troops for base and convoy security. Here is a link to 19 pictures (inside and out) of one on display at the Army Museum in Hanoi: http://s104.photobucket.com/albums/m181/bu...uk/Hue%20V-100/ It looks like no restoration has been done on it. A plus IMHO. Sq/Sig "Armor in Vietnam" has pictures of the turreted version in use with the Army convoys and the open topped version used by the Air Force for AB security. I'd really like to have more info on radio type/placement (and the interior in general) , perhaps a small detail set for the interior to include the radio, and as an AF Vet, the open topped version, or a conversion, released. HTH
RickC5 Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Thanks for the clarification, cbush. That's what I get for relying on my memory instead of doing some research. BTW- I'm also an AF vet from the Vietnam era, but spent my time in Europe and Kansas instead of Vietnam thank God.
cbush Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 My Vietnam Era time was in Loring AFB, Me, Anderson AFB, Guam, and Grand Forks AFB, ND. I only had the info because I'm getting ready to start the kit and have been doing a little digging.
