Ned Posted March 25, 2025 Report Posted March 25, 2025 Short Version: I'm looking for clear B-24J gun turrets that don't have the ugly, unfixable seam running around them that the kit parts have. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Long Version: Back in the 70's, the Monogram kit... okay, that's too long. Look - I bought the Hobby Boss 1/48 B-24J and was horrified to find that the clear front and rear gun turrets are molded in 2 pieces, with the seam running along the sides of the turret halves. That is, no improvement over the 50 year old kit and no way to avoid a very noticeable and impossible-to-fix flaw. Koster made a vacuform kit of these turrets many years ago, which I have searched in vain for. Cold War Studio is supposed to have them but they continue to be out of stock. On 01/13/2025 they said that new ones will be available in a week. I keep checking their website, again in vain. If anyone has a line on either of these, or knows about some other source, please let me know. It's sort of driving me out of my mind over here. To paraphrase the Rastafarians, "Jamaican me crazy"!
ghodges Posted March 26, 2025 Report Posted March 26, 2025 The best that I know of is the old Koster vacuform set of "clear parts/turret" update set for the B-24. The good news is they came with resin interior parts and the seams were in the correct places. The bad news is that you have to glue those thin clear edges together as the turrets are 2-3 parts. That set may be hard to find now, but then again you may be able to get it from someone who bought it and then decided it was too much for them to tackle. The pics below are from the set that was included in the Koster "Ford Nose" B-24 conversion set. Hope this helps! Gil
