Looking for drawings and-or descriptions of the changes made to the Lockheed P-80A to create the P-80R speed record aircraft. I can find numerous statements to effect that the wing tips were reshaped, the wing leading edge extended, canopy reduced and the intakes reworked but nothing definitive or any drawings or visual comparisons.

The intakes and canopy I think I can figure out from pictures, but I would like to know just how much to clip the wingtips and what the final shape is to be. Same for knowing how much and what shape to add to the leading edges of the wing.

I am working with the Airfix 1/72 scale P-80C for the donor kit.

This P-80R was just recently added to the list of models being built for the AF Museum

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Edward,

No, I had not seen that, but thanks for sending it along. The model has been built and the project finished. I ran across an article providing all the information I needed. Thanks again.
