  1. All: AMPS Boresight V20N2 is at the printer and it usually takes 10-14 days before it arrives at mailboxes, so that's right before the 2012 AMPS International Convention in Auburn, Indiana. This issue features Trumpeter's KV-8 and BTR-50PK. We also have a walk around of the M-42 Duster to coincide with the AFV Club release. If your browser allows animated GIF's then you'll see previews in this post. Boresight is the magazine included with AMPS membership and is published bi-monthly. Boresight is proud to be a publication written and designed by AMPS member-volunteers that are modelers first. In addition to reference features and detailed modeling projects, Boresight supports the healthy AMPS product review program by publishing build reviews of current releases. Interested? 2. All: AMPS Boresight issue V19N2 has been delivered to the printer and will soon be on the way to AMPS members. This issue is the SoCal Chapter Special Issue. All content was provided by SoCal AMPS members. This is the third Boresight since we converted to full-color, and page samples are below. AMPS Boresight is one of the benefits of being an AMPS member. If you would like to join or renew your membership, just visit AMPS-Armor.org. If you would like to join those that have contributed a model build article or technique description, please email me at the link below. AMPS greatly appreciates all those that have already supported the new Boresight, and there's plenty of room for more! Sincerely, John Robinson AMPS Boresight Editor AMPS-Armor.org email link
  3. AMPS Members: Here's a glimpse of your next Boresight. Inside features include a Charioteer conversion by Greg Buechler and a Merkava "What if" by Mark Aldrich. Jim Guld's diorama "Whada Catch?" is pictured on the rear cover. There's also the KC AMPS show report and an M36B2 Jackson Tank Destroyer photo reference. As always, thank you contributors! Check your AMPS membership to be sure it's good through issue V18N4 to get this one. Renewals come in one-, two- or three-year terms if your's is expiring. AMPS Boresight will have a few surprises in the future and you wouldn't want to miss them. Sincerely, John Robinson AMPS Boresight Editor AMPS-Armor.org email link
  4. AMPS Members: Boresight V18N2 is finally ready for distribution in the coming week. On the cover is the Hobby Boss T26E4 that was reviewed for the AMPS Review Crew by Glen Martin but we decided to publish it in Boresight. We also have a major IDF M50 Sherman conversion by Eric Reinert, British Cromwell with Zimmerit by Jim Guld, Hobby Boss 1:48 M4 Sherman by the editor, and lastly a diorama from Danny Egan entitled "Moscow to Berlin." The reference feature is interior photos from the USMC AAVR7A1. Thank you all who have contributed! The next issue will cover the AMPS 2010 International Convention and list all the winners. Sincerely, John Robinson AMPS Boresight Editor Email link
  5. This could be caused by many things, but the culprit may be the "White Balance" that the photograph was taken with. I'll try to briefly explain why. Lighting from different sources burn at different "color temperatures" that affect the digital photos we take. Ordinary light bulbs=yellow/orange, florescent=blue/green, and others have white and varying shades. The human eye corrects this for us, but digital cameras use microprocessors to correct for different light sources; sometimes accurately, other times not. Pocket digital cameras have settings for white balance, but the problem is that most lighting is a blend of sources, from a glass window, to a desk lamp, to a camera flash. Higher-end cameras have custom settings that allow any given light condition to be corrected, but unfortunately the pocket digitals do not offer the same latitude. In your case, although you used your camera flash as lighting, some stray light of the yellow/orange color coming off a room light or open widow could have crept in and the camera incorrectly adjusted the white balance. This may explain the increased richness of reds when the photo is created. What to do about it? Software can correct it, if you have the time and dedication. Pocket digital cameras are limited in their ability to correct white balance, so upgrading to a camera with custom white balance correction will greatly decrease the occurrence. Shooting under controlled lighting will also help. -- John Robinson http://www.armorartistry.com
  6. AMPS Members: The October Boresight is being shipped to members this week. Thank you contributors, Boresight works only by you taking photos and writing articles. Keep those articles coming! The next issue will be a special one on dioramas, which is being created right now. Please continue to be patient as we work on getting caught up from the transition delays of last fall. Please look at your mailing label when Boresight arrives, and take note of your membership's last issue. The October issue, in membership terms, is V17N5, where the 5 indicates the fifth issue of the calendar year. The last issue of 2009, will be V17N6. Hope this makes sense! If your membership is running out remember to renew for next year. -- John Robinson AMPS Boresight Editor http://www.amps-armor.org/ampssite/contact.aspx john.robinson@amps-armor.org
  7. AMPS Members: The next AMPS Boresight has returned from the printer and is being prepped for mailing any day now. A large part of this issue is a report on AMPS 2009 and the winners list. Also there are build articles on Trumpeter's WR360 locomotive and Dragon's 1:72 M4A1(76) Sherman. The reference feature has photos of the U.S. Army M1078 Cargo truck, hopefully useful for those building the Trumpeter kit. You'll see a new layout, and although still a b&w publication (except the covers), efforts have been made to improve the photo quality. More enhancements will be forthcoming. I'm acutely aware that issues are behind schedule, and fixing that is one of my top goals. However, we still depend on the AMPS membership to contribute material for Boresight, and the more we have, the sooner Boresight gets published. Please consider writing for the society or approaching a cohort to do so. So I hope you enjoy the improvements and will help me make Boresight even better. I am always open for communication about Boresight. Just visit the AMPS website at amps-armor.org, and select "Boresight" in the navigation menu, then "Contact the editor." Alternatively, you can email directly to: john.robinson@amps-armor.org Sincerely, John Robinson AMPS Boresight Editor http://www.amps-armor.org/ampssite/contact.aspx
