  1. So after years and years of making my own blends of panel liners, I figured I'd try Tamiya's Black Panel liner. Works well enough and is convenient. I let it dry (as per the instructions on the bottle) and then tried to remove and blend it with the paint using Tamiya X-20. Now My paint job underneath is completely ruined. It went through the gloss coat, the final paint coat and into the primer. I'm sick as a dog over here after all the work I've put into this kit to have the paint get destroyed. I'm already resigned to having repaint the spots that are worn through, but any thoughts on how to remove the dried panel liner that is all over the finish without further damaging the paint? Thanks in advance, Mark
  2. Happy Holidays everyone! I'm currently elbow deep scratch building cockpit details of my next build: Monogram's Devastator TBD-1. (pics to follow shortly). I was thinking about the next stages of the build and what others use to hold the model as they are actively building. Does anyone use a jig to help after assembly has been completed and working on other parts?. Just curious and thanks! Maybe something like one of these: https://imodeler.com/2021/07/assembling-and-using-a-model-jig/ https://www.bulldogmodels.co.uk/products/aircraft-holder-jig-for-1-48th-1-72nd-scale https://masterpiecemodels.com/product/scale-model-jig-72-48-scale/ Mark
  3. Hi and thanks very much for the kind words! I have to say the build component, which is typical for Bandai, wasn't much of challenge but Holy Schnikes, once I got started with the painting and weathering, I was really fascinated and learned so much. My current build is a throwback, Monogram's TBD-1 Devastator. Never tried to document a build before, but maybe I'll try it with this kit. Gonna check out some of your work now. Thanks again!
  4. Well, it's finally finished. I started this project as a way of getting back into scale modeling, a hobby I enjoyed immensely as a young lad. There were some long breaks in between during the build while I read about new techniques and gathered information. Anyway, here it is warts and all. Feedback is welcome around all aspects of mod el building. I'm just getting back into this, am willing to learn and this activity is meant to be fun and relaxing. Cheers!
  5. Hellooooooooo out there! Very happy to have finally joined this prestigious club after hearing and reading about if for so many years. Yes as a wee lad I heard all about the club but could never save up enough cash to join. Back then, one could make a decent living mowing lawns, having a paper route and doing odd jobs to save for model kits, tools (I never could afford a proper airbrush and compressor!) and materials to build. So after taking a bit of time off, I'm looking to get back into the hobby as a way of reclaiming an important part of my youth but only much better this time. Yes, I still have plenty of imagination and enthusiasm for the hobby but this time there are several things different. One is I've moved on from paper routes and odd jobs and have a career with some cash to spare. Two is the sheer amount of resources available to teach me how to do all these techniques I've read about: pin washing, re-scribing panel lines, working with bare metal foil, weathering techniques, scratch building cockpits, airbrushing, and.... And finally, a resource such as this one to meet and discuss all these great topics with in an exchange of ideas and information I never thought possible. Hellooooooooo out there? So I sit here typing this introductory posting, hoping to eventually show examples of my work, get some feedback around it, learn a thing or two about a thing or two, and virtually meet some like minded modelers. I'm a family man primarily focusing on building the many kits I've destroyed over the years initially, new ones that look interesting and maybe a diorama or two. I gravitate toward WWII aircraft, science fiction vehicles and thinking of taking on an armor or other project (howitzers, half track, etc) in the near future. Hellloooooooo out there and so happy to be here! I remain, Mark from Parsippany,NJ
