1/72 Aichi Type 99 "Val" Dive-Bomber Midway 1942

Barcode: 0 89195 85107 9

Case Pack: 24 pieces per master carton

Box Size: 7.5" x 13" x 1.8"

The Battle of Midway (4-7 June 1942) was the defining naval engagement of the Pacific Campaign during WWII. It occurred just six months after Japan ’s surprise attack on Pearl Harbor and resulted in a decisive victory for the US Navy (USN). The battle resulted in the loss of four Japanese aircraft carriers, a heavy cruiser, 248 carrier-borne aircraft and 3,057 sailors, a costly blow the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) and its shipbuilding industry couldn’t recover from. One historian even called it “the most stunning and decisive blow in the history of naval warfare.” The IJN attacked Midway Atoll and sought to sweep the USN into oblivion via an ambush. However, the US had been able to break Japanese codes and so the USA sprung its own trap on the Japanese! Cyber-Hobby is proud to announce the release of a 1/72 scale kit of a Japanese Aichi D3A dive-bomber that took part in this fierce battle.

Cyber-Hobby has done a sterling job on this 1/72 dive-bomber kit. This time it comes with brand new Cartograf decals that offer a splendid selection of markings suitable for aircraft participating in the Battle of Midway. It uses the same toolings that were created using highly advanced CAD techniques, and the result is an amazingly detailed aircraft. The engine and cockpit are both fully represented. Due to its primary role as a dive-bomber, the model sensibly comes with a payload of a 250kg bomb. And as a carrier-borne aircraft, its 14.37m-wide wings could be folded up to save space. This feature too is carried over into the model; builders can select whether they want the plane to have folded or extended wings. There are no halfway measures when it comes to the detail exhibited on this Midway Aicha Type 99 model!

1/700 U.S.S. Arkansas CGN-41 - Smart Kit

Barcode: 0 89195 87124 4

Case Pack: 24 pieces per master carton

Box Size: 7.5" x 13" x 1.8"

The 178m-long USS Arkansas (CGN-41) was a nuclear-powered guided missile cruiser of the US Navy that was commissioned in 1980. Her primary mission was to use her Harpoon, SM-2MR and ASROC missiles, Phalanx 20mm guns and Mk 46 torpedoes against air, surface and submarine threats to defend aircraft carrier task forces. Additionally, CGN-41 also carried Tomahawk cruise missiles. Because Arkansas was nuclear-powered, she was able to keep pace with similarly propelled carriers. Her first tour of duty was off the coast of Lebanon supporting the multinational force in late 1982. In 1986 USS Arkansas also deployed to the coast of Libya in the wake of US strikes against the country in retaliation for terrorist actions. The 9,473-ton ship was eventually decommissioned in July 1998.

Not so long ago a 1/700 scale replica of the USS Virginia (Item No.7090) joined Dragon’s Sea Power lineup of model kits. That release was significant as it was the series’ first modern subject, which obviously meant all the parts were brand new toolings. Now the Virginia ’s sister ship has joined Dragon’s fleet. Although the kit doesn’t have any new parts, it does contain all the appropriate markings via Cartograf decals to depict USS Arkansas. This impressive kit is finely detailed - for example, the superstructure carries fine detail such as hoses and ladders molded in place. The bridge itself is a product of a three-directional slide mold, and a generous collection of photo-etched parts like radar antennas and railings provides finesse. To exhibit USS Arkansas, the modeler has the option of building a full-hull or waterline-hull version.

1/35 Rommel and His Staff, North Africa 1942 (4 Figures Set)

Barcode: 0 89195 86723 0

Case Pack: 48 Pieces Per Master Carton

Box Size: 6.4" x 10.2" x 1.5"

Erwin Rommel is one of the most famous and respected German military commanders of WWII. Born in 1891, he was dubbed the ‘Desert Fox’ for his exploits in North Africa , for this was the arena in which he reached legendary status. He led the Deutsches Afrikakorps with great professional skill from 1941 onwards when Italian forces were on the ropes. Despite having minimal forces, the German field marshal succeeded in besieging and capturing Tobruk, and advancing across North Africa all the way to Egypt . Some of the most important battles of this time were at El Alamein against his nemesis Bernard Montgomery. Finally, with ravaged supply lines and shortages of personnel and equipment, the Afrikakorps was forced to give up the fight in May 1943. Dragon’s newest 1/35 scale figure set features the famous Desert Fox along with three of his staff officers in full swing in 1942.

The four figures contained in the box are beautifully sculpted in plastic, and the one representing Rommel is an extremely good likeness. He is dressed in his characteristic leather greatcoat, and he’s shown in typical pose as he directs his forces with consummate skill. His three staff officers are based on photographic sources, so they too possess realistic poses. All wear uniform elements characteristic of the period and the desert theater. Although they don’t come with personal weapons, they do carry suitable items such as binoculars, and they wear their medal decorations and hats. The sharp sculpting of these figures takes injection molding to the outer limits of its possibilities. This 1/35 figure set of Rommel and his staff in action lends itself to a dramatic North African diorama scene.

Dragon is proud to announce the arrival of its long-awaited kit of a 1/35 scale Sd.Kfz.10 halftrack. This important kit helps fill an important gap in model coverage of Germany ’s numerous halftrack types. The Sd.Kfz.10 was a light design in the 1-ton-payload class that was intended as a prime mover for small towed guns such as the 3.7cm PaK 35/36 or 2cm FlaK 30. Its total capacity was eight troops. Demag delivered the first vehicles in 1938, but eventually seven factories were involved in producing approximately 14,000 examples. Dragon’s kit represents an Ausf.B model from the 1942 time period. While the Sd.Kfz.10 was conceived as a prime mover, it was also commonly used as a personnel carrier, as shown in the box top artwork.

As already mentioned, Dragon’s 1/35 scale kit depicts a halftrack built in 1942, one that still possessed a semiautomatic transmission. Certainly compared to tanks and many other halftracks, this is not a large vehicle. However, although it may be small in stature, it is big on detail. For instance, it possesses a full interior in the driver’s and troop compartment, and even the engine and transmission hidden under the hood are fully present. The crew seats even possess a textured surface. The middle tier of interleaved road wheels is new especially for this kit. The Sd.Kfz.10 was used in all theaters of WWII, thus giving modelers unlimited scope as they explore their creative impulses. It was a versatile vehicle, and modelers will find the same when they combine it with other panzer kits or figure sets from Dragon’s impressive collection.

The military vehicle known in official US nomenclature as Truck, 1/4 Ton, 4x4, is probably the world’s most famous design in its class. This iconic WWII vehicle was produced from 1941-45, with more than 634,000 rolling off American production lines. They faithfully served not only the US military, but also allies like the UK , France and Russia . These small 4x4 vehicles were employed in numerous battlefield tasks, with one role being that of reconnaissance and scouting. Some vehicles involved in such missions were fitted with steel plates to better protect the occupants, and early efforts soon led to the fitting of specially designed armor kits.

Following a very popular earlier release (Item No.6714), Dragon has produced another exciting 1/35 scale kit of a 1/4-Ton Armored 4x4 Truck. The difference is that it carries two bazookas instead of the original kit’s .50-cal machine gun. The twin bazookas are fitted on a pintle mount that’s newly tooled especially for this release. Such an improvised weapon installation was observed on scout jeeps during the Battle of the Bulge, for example. The vehicle features a solid one-piece body tub for accurate assembly and alignment. Under the hood is an extremely realistic-looking engine that assembles from multiple parts; it can be shown off if the modeler chooses to model the hood up. Atop the hood, the windscreen is depicted wrapped in a canvas cover. The new armor plates are rendered in photo-etched metal to give a true-to-scale appearance, while other metal components provide items such as tool mounting brackets, hood retainers and various straps. All in all, this is one extremely potent little vehicle!

1/18 Apollo Astronaut Assortment - Action 18 Hero 18101 - 18104 (12 pcs. Assort.)

***Brand New Action 18 Hero Series***

Making one giant leap forward for collectors is Dragon’s new Action 18 Hero range of figures! The first four astronaut action figures (Item Nos. 18101-18104) come as a complementary assortment, and they are beautifully made to 1/18 scale (3.75-inch). Every figure in the quartet represents an Apollo astronaut, and they come with differentiating features and accessories. One astronaut has planted the “Stars and Stripes” flag on the Moon’s surface, another carries a camera, while a third wields a scoop with which to collect lunar soil specimens.

The face of the fourth figure can be seen as he has taken off his helmet and carries it in his hands. All the figures come with individual dioramic stands so that they can be realistically displayed.

All the action figures feature ball joints to give their legs and arms an appropriate degree of articulation within their spacesuits. Making use of Dragon’s vast experience in producing 12-inch action figures, this set is simply stunning. They soar far above toy-like figures from other manufacturers, and their individual painting is equal to that in the best of collections. The NASA badges on their spacesuits are accurately produced by tampo printing. These are the first figures in the Action 18 Hero collection, and like the Apollo space exploration program, there is so much more for space fans to discover and look forward to!

Features:

- Ball joints for different articulation

- Badges presented in tampo printing

- Diorama stand included for display

Dragon Warbird’s continues its collection of experimental aircraft with a 1/144 scale model of the X-3 jet aircraft. Developed by Douglas Aircraft Company from 1949 onwards, the sleek X-3 Stiletto was designed for sustained supersonic speeds. The X-3 employed titanium and low-aspect ratio wings, and the first prototype was delivered in September 1952, with the first flight occurring the following month. Eventually a total of 51 X-3 flights took place. However, the pair of Westinghouse J34 turbojet engines was not powerful enough so it never actually reached Mach 1 in straight flight! The effort wasn’t wasted though, as data obtained from the X-3 was used to produce the F-104 Starfighter. The lone X-3 Stiletto is on display at the National Museum of the US Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio .

This Dragon Warbirds model captures perfectly the sleek lines of this American experimental design. Of note, two complete 1/144 scale models are included in this set. One model is a fully finished and pre-painted replica while the other has transparent exterior parts that reveal some of the craft’s insides. The latter model provides aviation enthusiasts with a new appreciation for this futuristic aircraft design. All details are accurately rendered, plus an ‘S’-shaped display stand made of metal is included. This allows the exterior and interior of the models to be shown off side by side. This new Warbirds release differs from the previous Item No.51028 in that it has alternative markings. Only one X-3 Stiletto was ever built, but now Warbirds offers you two…in one set!
