1/72 Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat - Wing Tech Series

Barcode: 0 89195 85060 7

Case Pack: 24 pieces per master carton

Box Size: 13" x 7.5" x 1.8"

Although it looked somewhat like its predecessor the F4F Wildcat, the single-seat F6F Hellcat was a completely new design from Grumman. It was a carrier-based fighter that served in the US Navy and US Marine Corps (USMC). The Hellcat is credited with destroying a staggering 5,271 enemy aircraft. Cyber-Hobby is releasing a 1/72 scale plastic kit of the first production version of the Hellcat, the F6F-3. In all, some 4,402 F6F-3 carrier-borne fighters were produced up till April 1944 before it was replaced by the F6F-5. The fighter’s standard armament was six .50-cal M2/AN Browning machine guns, while later aircraft possessed three hardpoints capable of carrying 900kg of bombs. Six High-Velocity Aircraft Rockets (HVAR) could also be mounted under its wings.

This is a 1/72 scale kit from Cyber-Hobby. It’s based on the F6F-5N (Item No.5080) that was released earlier, but it has a modified fuselage in keeping with the design of the F6F-3. Details such as the Double Wasp radial engine are absolutely stunning. The cockpit features a full interior, with even minute details rendered. The transparent canopy can be displayed open or closed, thus allowing the modeler to show off all the intrinsic detail. The wings can be shown extended or folded, as can the undercarriage. Cartograf decals offer various US and British unit marking options for this famous Hellcat fighter. The kit also comes with a selection or armaments (e.g 5-inch HVAR, 500lb bomb) to produce an authentic-looking model. This might be a Hellcat, but it will cause aircraft modelers to purr with delight!

NASA’s Apollo space program successfully placed man on the Moon, but a number of other missions followed even after this milestone had been achieved. The final mission was Apollo 17, the sixth flight to the Moon’s surface. (Interestingly, it is also the last time man landed on the Moon). Apollo 17 blasted off from the Kennedy Space Center on 7 December 1972 and landed in the Taurus-Littrow valley in order to sample lunar highland material. The Lunar Module (LM) christened Challenger contained the program’s third Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV), which enabled the astronauts to explore during the three-day J-type mission. Eventually the lunar ascent module docked with the orbiting Command/Service Module (CSM) named America before heading home.

Dragon is proud to offer a full set model kits representing this important and final Apollo mission. A newly tooled LRV is included. It’s accurately made to 1/72 scale and is beautifully detailed. The LRV is made even more eye-catching by the fact that an astronaut can sit behind the wheel as he explores his authentic-looking diorama base. Indeed, the inclusion of the CSM, LM and an additional astronaut makes for an amazing scene. It’s incredible that so much can fit inside a single box, but each item has been carefully molded. Furthermore, pre-painted parts for the reflective-surfaces of the descent module are available in Dragon’s first production. Now collectors can relive the final Apollo mission!

Germany ’s first attempt at creating a heavy tank commenced in the early 1930s. Known as the Neubau-Fahrzeug (“New Construction Vehicle”), it was not a success. Slow-moving and boasting multiple turrets, it was ill equipped for the type of rapid, mobile warfare that Blitzkrieg tactics required. For this reason, only five Neubau-Fahrzeug heavy tanks were built. The first two prototypes were manufactured by Rheinmetall-Borsig (Rh-B) in 1934 out of mild steel. Armament included a 7.5cm KwK L/24 main gun, 3.7cm KwK L/45 cannon and two 7.92mm machine guns.

Dragon has already produced two 1/72 scale kits of the Neubau-Fahrzeug that cover vehicle numbers 1 and 3-5. Now comes the final vehicle – Nr.2, a prototype that was used in a training school until its retirement in 1940. The kit includes a number of brand new parts that allow modelers to build this specific vehicle. While the turret looks similar to Nr.3, in fact it’s different, as evidenced by details such as the pattern of rivets on the top plate. The smaller turret is a new tooling as well, with its own distinctive shape. The exhaust pipes on the right fender are also unique to this prototypical vehicle. The entire upper hull is made from a single piece of while the intricate road wheels are assembled as one piece. With the release of this final kit in the family, modelers can now own the complete set of Neubau-Fahrzeug!

1/72 Sd.Kfz.260 kleine Panzerfunkwagen

Barcode: 0 89195 87446 7

Case pack: 48 Pieces per carton

Box Size: 6.4" x 10.2" x 1.9"

Dragon has just extended its 1/72 scale range of model Leichter Panzerspähwagen light reconnaissance vehicles. The new family member is the Sd.Kfz.260. Like other types such as the Sd.Kfz.222 and Sd.Kfz.223, this particular variant was based on an Auto-Union 801 chassis and it was powered by a Horch 8-cylinder engine. The Sd.Kfz.260 was designed specifically as an armored, but unarmed, radio communication vehicle. Some 493 examples were produced from 1940 till 1943. Used by signals units, they provided mobility and some degree of protection. A standard crew comprised four soldiers, and the little vehicle was capable of reaching speeds of 85km/h and it had a range of 310km. The 3,815kg Sd.Kfz.260 was fitted with an Fu.7 medium-range radio set connected to a rod antenna. The Sd.Kfz.260 was eventually replaced in service by halftrack radio vehicles.

Dragon’s 1/72 scale model is newly tooled. While it’s based on the previously released Sd.Kfz.222, it has brand new parts such as its entire upper hull. Because some details are different to existing Sd.Kfz.222/223 kits, Dragon created a completely new one-piece slide-molded upper hull. The machine gun turret has also been replaced - the framework over the hull-top opening is made of plastic, this being much easier to work with than photo-etched parts. There is also a brand new storage box, jack and reworked fenders. The rod antenna is also finely produced. After painting in appropriate camouflage colors, modelers can apply Cartograf high-quality decals to finish off their new Sd.Kfz.260!

1/6 German Flammenwerfer 35

Barcode: 0 89195 75036 5

Case Pack: 36 Pieces per case

Box Size: 7.5" x 11.4" x 1.8"

Features:

- Realistic Flammenwerfer newly produced

- Canvas frame w/straps and metal buckles

- Delciate fuel tanks reproduced

- Fuel hose and igniter w/details

- Fuel on/off valve assembly

One of the most fearsome weapons of war is the flamethrower, which propelled a deadly jet of flame against enemy positions such as dugouts and buildings. Germany based its WWII flamethrowers on those introduced in 1918, and one of the standard infantry types was the Flammenwerfer 35. Weighing 35.8kg, it was easily operated by one soldier. Carried on the operator’s back, the 11.8-litre main fuel tank contained Flammöl 19, which was essentially petrol mixed with tar to thicken it, this being mixed with nitrogen propellant when fired. The igniter/torch offered a total of 10 seconds of use, and the weapon’s effective range was 25m. The Flammenwerfer 35 was produced until 1941, at which time the Flammenwerfer 41 began to replace it.

Dragon has made available a 1/6 scale model kits of this particularly fearsome German weapon. The flamethrower kit fits together extremely accurately, and the components combine to accurately depict the Flammenwerfer 35. Details such as the on/off valve assembly, the igniter, the fuel tank and harness are all fully detailed. This flamethrower could easily be added to a suitable 1/6 scale action figure donor, and it’s sure to be a scorching item in Dragon’s collection of 1/6 scale weapon systems!

1/72 88mm FlaK 36, 10.Pz.Div. Tunisia 1943

Barcode: 0 89195 60631 0

Case Pack: 24 pieces per carton

Box Size: 5.1" x 3.9" x 2.6"

The latest Dragon Armor new item is a 1/72 scale replica of a German 8.8cm Flak 36 gun. The famous weapon is finished in camouflage suitable for North Africa . Originally an antiaircraft weapon, the “88” was one of the most famous weapons of WWII. One variant was the Flugzeugabwehrkanone (Flak) 36, which was in its element when serving as an anti-tank cannon. It had a two-piece barrel for easier replacement, and a heavier Sd.Anh.202 carriage that meant it could fire without being emplaced if necessary. The 7.4-tonne gun could be readied for action in just 2.5 minutes. Muzzle velocity was 820m/ and it was particularly deadly against enemy tanks, especially in the type of long-range encounters that occurred in North Africa .

Dragon Armor’s newest depiction of the Flak 36 shows a weapon in service with the 10th Panzer Division in Tunisia , 1943. This division had been rushed to North Africa in late 1942 after the Allied landings under Operation Torch. The division had some successes against ‘green’ US Army units, including the Battle of Kasserine Pass in 1943. The gun on its cruciform platform is painted in a typical sand and green camouflage scheme. Of interest is the barrel that’s still painted in a panzer gray color. This was a legendary weapon of WWII, and Dragon’s model is accomplished in both its level of detail and desert finish.
