All were equipped with ten 8-inch (203 mm) guns – which was a record for heavy cruisers at the time. After fighting in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, she suffered a torpedo hit from the U.S.S. Bergall. She was later used as a floating anti-aircraft battery in Singapore. Shortly after WWII’s end, she was scuttled off the coast of Malaysia.
