David Schilling enlisted in the U.S. Army in September 1939, completing his flight training eight months later. Today, Schilling is best remembered for his distinguished career with the 56th Fighter Group. On December 23, 1944, Schilling scored five German “kills” in one flight, earning his place as one of WWII’s 38 U.S. Army Air Force “Ace-in-a-Day” pilots.
