GMK
Hi all, I am new back to the model hobby. Doe anyone know of a good source of reference materials I can access to determine the available color schemes for cars when they were originally purchased? Sometime the instructions will have some guidance but so far those are few and far between. Thanks, Gary
krow113
Every car has a paint code on a manufacturer's plate somewhere on the vehicle.
kptucker
Hey Gary... Welcome to the forum. I don't know what you are looking for 'specifically' but here is an example. If you were looking for the paint codes for a 1970 Challenger or Cuda, it is as simple as looking for Dodge Paint Codes 1970 in a 'Google' search. http://maxwedge.com/.../highimpact.php If you are looking for one of the best suppliers of correct automotive paint: http://www.mcwautomo...t/newstuff.html They normally do a couple of major shows a year across the country. If you are looking for racing colors, while this business is across the pond and the exchange rate is bad, Hiroboy can't be beat. http://www.hiroboy.c...ex.php?cPath=48 I hope this helps. If you are looking for something specific, maybe someone else will chime in and help. Kevin
MikeH
It really depends on the car. 1:1 forums are a good place. I also frequent Ebay Motors for research and ideas too.
GMK
Thanks all. Great info. What I am trying to do is determine what exterior color and interior color options were available for the 1:1 of the models I build. For example - for discussion sake - if a 1969 Mustang was available in Metallic Green, what were the options for the interior colors? Thanks again Gary
Schmitz
Thanks all. Great info. What I am trying to do is determine what exterior color and interior color options were available for the 1:1 of the models I build. For example - for discussion sake - if a 1969 Mustang was available in Metallic Green, what were the options for the interior colors? Thanks again Gary Gary, I don't know of any one source. For popular cars like Mustangs, a Google search will turn up lots of info on paint and interior color codes. Here is one: http://www.themustangnews.com/content/2009/08/1969-mustang/ But its hard to know which interior/exterior combinations were offered and which were actually produced. Even if you found a brochure telling you which combinations were available, it wasn't unheard of for dealers to special order options that weren't officially available to make customers happy. Probably the easiest thing to do is a Google or BIng image search and see what you can find pictures of. BTW, if you're worried about contests, judges are not going to know what is correct either - whether the interior color is accurate pretty much never enters the consideration. GMK
Thanks Don. Not too worried about contests. My skill level will not be there for a while. I have to learn all these new techniques and how to use some of the tools I can now afford like my air brush. I was just getting a little anal about it. I forgot - it's a model, you can do whatever you want! Gary
