A recent thread, "Building Rare or Vintage Kits", was thought-provoking. Respondents discussed whether they would, or would not, crack open a rare kit and build it.

A related consideration, although on the other end of the axle is,

" What is the one subject that has yet to be offered in kit form that you would most like to build?"

It could even be a subject that has been offered but perhaps not in the scale you prefer, or to the level of detail you wish it to have?

A 1/48th scale Air Force One "707"?

A "1/8" scale Sherman with every bolt, every rivet, all internal details, and fully motorized?

A "1/48th" USS Olympia?

A "1/72" Transporter/Crawler for the Space Shuttle?

A "1/8" NASCAR (Jeff Gordon's # 24...of course!) with super detailed chassis, motor, drive train and full interior?

What would be on your list?

Dick -

Interesting subject but in the automotive end there really needs to be a caveat: of "by a mainstream company at a reasonable price". There are a lot of resin and high end companies out there that do specialty cars but charge an arm and a leg for them. My personal favorite would be Dan Gearny's AAR Eagle F 1 car. Model Factory Hero in Japan does a beautiful model in 1:20 scale but the darned thing is $375 fob Japan! I would love to see Tamiya or Hasegawa do it at about $60 to $90. That is true of so many subjects.

Wow, I'll be here for awhile....

I'd love to see in aircraft:

1/72 scale Boeing 747; especially in Air Force One markings

1/72 scale plastic C-17

1/72 scale plastic C-5

In armor,

1/72 scale M-41 Walker Bulldog

1/72 scale M-47

1/72 scale M-109 Paladin

1/72 scale ZSU-23/4 Shilka.

1/72 scale SA-6 Ganef

1/72 scale Italian Centauro armored car.

To name a few.......

Oh My! There are some interesting and intriguing items already on your lists. I'll have to do some Googling to figure out what Aldrich is talking about....outside of a Sherman I don't recognize much in the way of armor. I'd bump the 1/72nd aircraft to 1/48th...(so I can actually see what I'm working on!) but those Cargo ACs that Mark D suggested would simply not "work" in a scale outside of 72nd.

And I agree with Pete. I'd like to see a series of World Speed Autos, all in a consistent scale and all injection-molded to keep the price reasonable. I've got the Revell Challenger I, and that kit has been around since dinosaurs ruled the world.

- Ah, yes, but Mark, the real question then becomes,"Where would ya put 'em all?" Nyuck, nyuck.

- I'd like to see a:

1/12 ZRX-1200 (2004)

1/12 FZ600

1/12 FZR400 (88-90 USA issue, not what the lucky dogs in Europe have been getting since then)

1/12 EX250 (prefer 86-87, but any year will do)

1/12 YZR500 90 (Wayne Rainey. A model kit, not the Minichamps toy)

1/12 YZR500 88-89 (Eddie Lawson)

1/48 MiG-23 & 27 all new tooling

1/48 AH-1G, J, W all new tooling (Tamiygawa-ish)

......to start with. :smiley4:

Really??? I am building the C-17 1/144 now and can't imagine where a 1/72 would go! Luckily when Mine is done, my GrandDaughter gets it! Where Mrs. TreadHead plans to put her two 1/48 bombers is still unknown (that is assuming she actually build them)!!!

My list is rather easy...

1:24 scale modern Funny Car utilizing the latest in rapid prototyping to make it as accurate as possible (Read: Complete New Tooling, especially the motor)

1:24 scale modern Top Fuel (with the same request as above and including PE body panels).

1:24 scale modern Pro Mod with a fully plumbed and detailed twin turbo motor. (Blow-off valves, wastegates and turbo compressors with PE impellers)

No one makes a good modern racing turbo in 1:24...

And lastly...

1:12th scale McLaren Mercedes MP4-26.

I know the sucker will cost over $300.00 but I don't care... need for Tamiya to tool-up and release a modern F1 car.

A 1/35 scale MBT70 (only scale kit was a 1/48 Aurora kit) and an M1IP in 1/35th. You can sort of get an M1IP by kitashing the original Tamiya M1 and the Academy M1A1, but it would be nice to have one done to the quality of Dragon's M1A1AIM and M1A2SEP. A Slick 60 would be cool too. That tank was used from the Berlin Wall timeframe until up to Desert Storm.

Ya gotta think BIG dude!

I had a chance to eyeball the 1/144 Revell C-17 as one passed through my hands on its way to the Support the Troops drop off point. Looked cool to me but I didn't do much other than just ogle the pieces in the package.

Thanks Ken.

I know that licensing fees are killing the creation of the modern flopper and digger (and the dwindling fan base of NHRA fans).

Even if the kits were popped in gray plastic with no decals, the amount of coin that the auto manufacturers would want alone would raise the kit to over $50.00.

Slixx Decals could probably offer the decals for $14.00 to $18.00 depending on the team.

The kits might even reach Tamiya costs (between $60.00 and $80.00 per) if PE was included.

I don't have an issue with paying for quality but the masses need to buy the kits to make the new tooling a 'break even' proposition at best.

The model building community for modern drag racing isn't as big as the interest in German armor.

As far as the Pro Mod goes, that could be done a little cheaper because you wouldn't have to deal with the NHRA.

Until that happens I'll just keep working on my scratchbuilding skills...

Let's add some sci-fi spaceships here:

The Galaxy II from Captain Video live TV, including the visible front control room

The Terra V (final version was best) from Space Patrol, including the visible front control room

The Mars Space Ship and same-scale Wheel fom George Pal's Conquest of Space

Space Station V from 2001: A Space Odyssey

Battlestar Galactica (TOS) by Moebius to match in quality and detail their recent kit based on the 2003-09 series

1/48 C-46 Commando

1/48 C-119 Boxcar

1/48 F-86A or E (or both) with an early slatted non 6-3 wing. We've got "F"s out the yahoo.....

I'd even be excited if they were done as a decent vacuform, let alone injection molded.

Thanks Ken! I do believe I could still make room up there. I have a few smaller ones I can move down and the rest I can shift around.

Man, I need a bigger house!

The firefly class ship Serenity. I'd pay for an injection kit of that.

I never thought about an A3D in 48th! Very cool! As for the Honda.....I'd like a 49CC Kymko Vitality 50 in 48th or larger ( couldn't be much smaller!)

1/48 A3D Skywarrior.1/8 scale Honda XR 650R.

A "1/8" NASCAR (Jeff Gordon's # 24...of course!) with super detailed chassis, motor, drive train and full interior?

Don't look for it to happen. Revell released their Hendrick COT line last year. It sold so well, it's available to shops now from TWO distributors at a huge discount.

Might be a good thing for IPMS to buy for the M&T projects tho.

They only offered the 4 Hendricks drivers and nobody makes aftermarket decals anymore thanks to Brian and his over zealous licensing policy.

The only way you'll ever get that, or any other NASCAR subject, in the fuiture is die cast... too many people simply can't build it as pretty as the thing comes ouf of the box.

I was hoping it'd sell good so we'd get a Ford, Dodge and Toyota to fill out the track. Oh well.....

That DH-4 sounds like something for Wingnuts Wings.....wouldn't that be a beauty!

And the ICBM and SAM items sound interesting... I've got the ARII Scuds in 1/48th and they were an enjoyable build.

Very interesting range of "wishes".
