darthfoster
A friend of mine want to have a train built for her brother that used to work for the railroads. Are there any web-sites or companys that make static trains to build? Anthony
Dick Montgomery
There is a model train forum much like our IPMS forum. Just goggle for it. One can buy kits in N, HO, and larger scales. Most are designed to actually operate or run on the layout when completed. In HO I'd recommend Gould if you can still find them. They are the HaseTrumFineMolds of the train world. Simply beautiful models! Airfix manufacturers some non-functional HO scale engines as does Monogram.
Nick Filippone
Revell Germany has also released HO scale train kits for display only. They are usually German railway prototypes. Nick
SkyKing
A company called Highliners makes some outstanding kits of the GM F-units, both A and B. You can build just about any variant of these locos, as plenty of extra parts are included. They can be hard to find, however, as the same tooling is used for Athearn's "Genesis" F-units. They are body shell kits only, so you'll need to find chassis elsewhere. Walthers stocks Highliners kits.
Dick Montgomery
The previous post reminded me..... Athearn and Walthers both produce undecorated shells and full kits. Woodland Scenics produces tons of decals.
campingramps
Anthony, I have 2 locomotive kits put out by Revell. They are both 1/87 scale and one is the Hudson and the other is the Big Boy. They are for static display only and I'm not sure which train scale that is-HO or O-but they seem to be nice kits. I bought these at Hobby Lobby. A lot of parts and it says skill level 3 if that tells you anything.
Dick Montgomery
Both the Big Boy and the Hudson are in 1/87th scale, which is HO if you speak "train". They are decent kits. They fit together nicely and provide the modeler with room to go "detail" crazy if one wished to do so. I think they are Revell-o-gram kits having been previously released by Monogram. You can view the Hudson box art at http://ipmsusa3.org/gallery/v/box_art_album/Manufacturers/MNOP/Monogram+Box+Art/Hudson_Steam_Locomotive_New_York_Central_Monogram_1105_87th.jpg.html Here is the link to the Airfix 4-6-2 Biggin Hill. http://ipmsusa3.org/gallery/v/box_art_album/Miscellaneous/4_6_2_Biggin_Hill_Airfix_R_501_87th.jpg.html Here is the 4-6-2 Duchess of Glouchester by Rosebud Kitmaster http://ipmsusa3.org/gallery/v/box_art_album/Miscellaneous/Duchess_of_Glouchester_Rosebud_Kitmaster_4_87th.jpg.html See the Rosebud Kitmaster 0-4-0 Saddle Tank http://ipmsusa3.org/gallery/v/box_art_album/Miscellaneous/Saddle_Tank_0_2_0_Rosebud_Kitmaster_6_87th.JPG.html which is misidentified as an 0-2-0 View the 1804 Locomotive by AHM http://ipmsusa3.org/gallery/v/box_art_album/Miscellaneous/Trevithicks_1804_Locomotive_AHM_K_12_298.jpg.html There are several other HO items within the same gallery as those listed above. Once you get to the Misc. Album you can cruise around and find them easily. Unfortunately I do not seem to have the Big Boy art work on hand. Nortley
Hi, eBay has used model railroad stuff all the time. Except for rare or exceptional stuff it often goes cheap, and there is a worldwide selection of types and scales.
