Just wondering if anyone might have a set of 1/72nd decals for the 100th ARW for the KC-135R tanker. Looking for at least one set if possible. Please let me know!

I have several sets of KC-135 decals. Do you know of any particular manufacturer and sheet that contains what you are looking for.

David,

I don't know which aftermarket company made the decals. From my understanding the re-issue KC-135R kit has decals to do tail number 0100 from the 100th ARW. I have been told there are aftermarket decals available, but n oone is 100% sure which company did them. The picture I attached shows the tail code and "Box D" artwork...Hope this helps...

Hi, Brian,

The following decal information is in KC-135 Stratotanker Volume 44 in the Detail and Scale series by Alwyn T. Lloyd published in 1994.

Only two decal sheets have been issued specifically for KC-135 models. They are both in 1/72 scale.

Scale Master, Sheet Number SM 41

Entitled Bicentennial KC-135As, this sheet provides markings for three aircraft.

KC-135A, 62-3554, Spirit of North Country, 380th BMW, Plattsburgh AFB, New York.

KC-135A, 57-2591, Kitty Hawk, 68th BMW, Seymour Johnson AFB, North Carolina.

KC-135A, 63-7981, Center City USA, 384th ARefW, McConnell AFB, Kansas.

Three Guys Replicas, Sheet Number 3G-001

Markings for four KC-135As and one KC-135Q are included on this sheet.

KC-135A, 57-1460, 11th ARefS, with shark's teeth, circa 1972.

KC-135A, 61-0300, 22nd ARefW, flagship for the 15th Air Force, circa 1988. Photo on back cover of book.

KC-135A, 62-3509, Spirit of the Seacoast, circa 1990.

KC-135A, 59-1481 (N903NA), NASA, circa 1986. A typographical error on the instruction sheet indicates that the serial number is 59-1591. This aircraft was named Weightless Wonder IV and was used for astronaut training. This boomless aircraft may be built straight out of the box, because the fuel dump tube is provided with the ERTL kit.

KC-135Q, 59-1523, 9th SRW, circa 1988.

So, given this information, it would seem that any kit of the KC-135R would have to include a decal sheet for the 100th ARefW in the box, or you will not find one. You may have to cobble together the needed markings from other decal sheets for other aircraft, which means a lot of decal sheet research. Another thought: Long before the AMT/ERTL injection molded kit of the KC-135, Archer/Nova did a vacuform 1/72 kit that was quite good in shape, including multiple choices for engines and SLAR pods, but the outstanding feature was the huge decal sheet with many, many choices. Someone who has one of these old kits with the decals will have to look this one up for you and list the choices available to you.

Thanks Ed. I appreciate the in depth list and info on the kits and decal options. I'll be honest, it's been frustrating because people have told me there are decals available for the 100th and yet noone seems to be able to tell me who made them or what kit they came in. The tailwork would be very hard to replicate due to the design of the crown and so forth across the top of the tail.

As popular as aircraft are in the U.K. you would think someone would have made these decals at some point in time...

A search for "KC-135" on the Hannants website confirms this.

I thought there was also an aftermarket decal sheet somewhere, with this unit's markings...could be wrong...
