noelsmith
Hi. Has IPMS USA got a group of modellers who have set on a wacky subject to do really off the wall stuff with it ? Over here in the UK there is a group within IPMS named the Beyond the Box Special Interest Group. Basically, what they do is take any of the Airfix Wallace and Grommet and Shaun the Sheep kit stuff and let their imaginations run wild with it. The only stipulation is that the figures in the kit must be used with the model. It's amazing how the vehicles and figures have been converted. For example we have seen a James Bond version of the van, a Pimp My Ride version where the van was fully customised, The motorcycle and sidecar converted to look a bit like the Indiana Jones and his Dad unit and so on. Their display certainly turns heads at Scale Modelworld each year. Many have had a go, just to have a bit of fun and get away from the rivet counting aspect of the hobby. It's a good way of trying out new techniques etc without worrying too much about it. Would be intersting to know if anything like this is happening in IPMS Stateside. Dick Montgomery
Closest SIG might be the What If guys. They usually deal with spin-offs of aircraft but who knows? Contact Glen. His email is on the "What If" SIG page at http://web.ipmsusa3.org/sigs/what-if
noelsmith
IPMS UK also has a 'What If' S.I.G and like yours in the USA tends to come up with weird and wonderful aircraft in the main.
ghodges
The "humor in modeling" category would be the closest thing in IPMSUSA to what you're talking about. But, I know of no dedicated group for that. GIL
