The view from the Tropicana, Las Vegas

On my trip down to the Nationals in Phoenix I spent the night in Las Vegas at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino. Room had been recently remodeled and was nice but the casino was still upgrading and their machines were not in a friendly mood :banghead:.

I always like to check my view and knew I was probably facing the airport so took a peek and what was sitting out at the closest part to me.

Yes, one of the infamous "Janet" Boeing 737s. So I watched on and off throughout the evening.

They did a constant business of flying in and out throughout the afternoon with a total of 5 parked when I went to bed for the night.

In the morning there was only one sitting again, just like when I arrived. Seeing these up close and personal (especially with my 30x zoom on the new camera) was pretty cool after hearing about them.

First I heard of these was the model built by Bill Engar entered in the SLC 06 contest.

Here are a few other visitors I saw.

Beautiful. Excellent views.

I apologize for my ignorance, but what is so special about a "Janet" Boeing 737? I've never heard of them, even though there are five.

Thanks for posting.

Some people are into airliners.

Yeah, that's it!

Janets are civil aircraft chartered by "entities of the government" that in this case ferry people to and from a certain "Area" nearby...that's if you believe the conspiracy theorists anyway... :smiley2:

Not that such an area even exists anymore...

Note that the "black helicopters" didn't show up in the pics! They're THAT stealthy! The Janet 737's are actually just decoys for the black helicopters anyway, or so a guy in a tin-foil hat told me......

I do like airliners. There are some really cool liveries out there. The problem is matching kits and decals, as it's hard to find BOTH in the same place at the same time, even at the Nats! Cheers!

Phil,

Thats one of my favorite parts of Vegas. I always request a room on the east side so I can enjoy the view. Drives my wife nuts. My other favorite is Red Rock park to the west of Vegas. The gambling and drinking part of that town lost its appeal for me a while ago. It will always hold a special place as thats where I married my sweetheart at a cheesy chapel that doesn't exist anymore. That part at least beat the odds as 20 years later we're together and happier then ever. I can tell you theres no better place to drop acid but that was a longgggg time ago. What a trip! Thanks for the pictures.

Oh, area 51 exists and it is no conspiracy theory. It is part of the Nellis test range and the spooky part is the air field at Groom lake. When I was flying it was know as the Dreamland restricted area. You can google earth it and see the runways. Interstingly there has been a number of new hangers built out there over the last 10 years. The Janet aircraft are the transport(not to secret) to and from the area. Now what actually goes on out there is subject to speculation. As a minimum it is a test area for black program aircraft that they just can't test at Edwards. Beyond that I will leave the conspiracy theorists. Kind of fun stuff, but the security stuff is very real. Don't believe it? Try getting into the Janet aircraft area or drive up to Groom lake. Enjoy the hospitality of the USAF. They would just love to entertain you. B)
