DLMatthys
I an doing a side by side comparison build of the AMT kit of the Vulcan Warp shuttle. I built one in the mid 1980's. This time I will build 2...The original kit from back then and the new issued kit form Round 2. I will make modifications to the kits to use lighting with LEDs and simple blinking circuits This links to a photo set of the on going build progress. http://www.flickr.com/photos/30727025@N02/...57623684139354/
DLMatthys
I want to use a way to light up the grills with simple elelctronics that don't reqiure inverters or converters and thier special voltages. So I opt for 2 white LEDs pointing down a white straw. Faux Neon. Ingrediants: 2 White LEDs T-1 3mm 2 120 Ohm Resiters 1 White coffee straw 2 Wires, stranded , 6 inches or less http://www.flickr.com/photos/30727025@N02/4666176115/ The straw is cut to a desired length. The two 3mm white LEDs are inserted into the 3mm (ID) coffee straw. 120 ohm resisters are soldured to positive side of LEDs. Then wired up as a parralle circuit. http://www.flickr.com/photos/30727025@N02/4666798706/ Energized! An even glow down the lenghts of the straw. The 120 ohm resisters allows 6 volts DC power to it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/30727025@N02/4666798636/

DLMatthys
More pics loaded to my fliker.com site... Warp Sled lighting: http://www.flickr.com/photos/30727025@N02/4668667245/ This 'Glow Tube" assembly is mounted to the outer nacelle sled part. http://www.flickr.com/photos/30727025@N02/4668667187/ Both nacelle shells fitted together and a test fireing of the Warp Sled glow. http://www.flickr.com/photos/30727025@N02/4668667113/ Light test in the dark. http://www.flickr.com/photos/30727025@N02/4668667049/ Results from the paint masking. The upper ribs on the grills needs to be opaque black. It is not as good as I wanted but this is... ONLY A TEST The paint may have chipped because the casting needs to be clean of finger oils and mold release. The paint may also has chiped because it was not fully dried....My bad! http://www.flickr.com/photos/30727025@N02/4668666963/ The front glows red clear part picks up enough ambient light from the glow tube. The paint masking not that effective with plastic stripes... Next plan is to try it masking with professional graphics arts tape .030 wide and maybe felt tip paint marker pens.
