Eduard Fw-190

Hello,

Dry fitting, it looks like the engine is going to protrude from the front of the cowl. Engine assembly seemed to go OK - exhausts from the rear cylinders were too long so I just cut them to match those from the front otherwise trouble free. Has anyone run into this? Any advice?

The Eduard Fw-190s have a rep of being "fiddly" and over-engineered. They give you lots of detail, with open gun bays and such, but the covers don't fit well if you want to close them up. I'm not surprised about the engine fitting being iffy too. Based on such reviews, I decided to stick to the other "simpler" (if less detailed) 190's in my stash.

Below are links to two Eduard Fw-190 builds. Both mention "test-fitting is a must"! Perhaps they'll be of some help.

I ran into this issue myself...you can check out my build on Modeling Madness below. Basically I had to test-fit the completed engine six different times and cut down the engine mounts. It's a bit of a bear :smiley7:...I've seriously thought about closing the cowling up on my next one and using one of the spare BMW 801s that come in the Tamiya Fw 190D-9 kits.

If you ahve any questions feel free to PM with them.

I built the A-6 and the A-8 about a year ago for Scale Aircraft Modelling magazine (The A-6 was on the cover) and didn't have any trouble with the engine installations. You do have to be careful about alignment and dry fit before gluing but if you're careful it will go together just fine. No trimming was required. I will second the statement that if you want the cowl panels closed then leave out most of the interior details because it will not fit together with the cowl panels closed up. Nothing in my builds was protruding too far forward however.
