Painting question..

Recommended Posts

Painting sequence background:

model is dark blue all over... is going to have an international orange nose.

Plan: to get the full effect of the orange:

I am sure orange over dark blue will not work, therefore, I should mask the area being painted orange and paint that area with white (over the blue) then the orange over the white should work...

Correct?

Thanks in advance.

Adam,

I'd paint it white first, then spray the orange. Wait 'till it cures for a week or so, mask that off and spray a clear-coat to prevent any bleed-thru then spray the blue.

Good luck,

Tim

If you paint the blue first, then prime with whatever, you do run the chance of a really slim line of the primer showing at the edge. Depends on the paint used and how thick/heavy you apply it. The best way is unmasked white then yellow. Then mask the yellow area and shoot the blue.

Thanks Gang! I too would have painted the orange first, and masked - I will have to try the silver on my next project!
