Posting this set of Mustang photos for Mark Fiedler (aka aAzZ09). Photos by Dr. Burton Anes. Enjoy.

Nice model, a bit of trivia Ralph Hoffer was shot down (KIA) by the Ace of Aces Erich Hartman. A fine tribute.

Can you elaborate on the references for the Hartman shootdown of Hoffer? I read where he was lost on a shuttle mission to Russia, but hadn't heard that Hartman was finally credited with getting him. Interesting!

Thanks guys for the compliments. Credit goes to Dr. Anes for the photos, but he didn't attach the prop as securely as he should in some of the takes. According to our editor, Chris Bucholtz, Kid Hofer was downed by flak battery "Legion Condor" Regiment 9, on July 2, 1944 in another P-51B (43-6746) while stafing an airfield in Mostar, Yugoslavia, according to records released in 2003 and not Erich Hartmann. Reference: 4TH Fighter Group, "Debden Eagles' pp. 89-90, (Chris Bucholtz). Happy Holidays,

Mark quotes my book very accurately! And I quoted Lynn Ritger. Actually, a book called "Kidd Hofer: Last of the Screwball Aces" brought to light the circumstances of his actual demise, which were as weird as the pilot himself!
