Becoming an official IPMS/USA chapter?

We've started a brand new club in Lansing, MI.  Several of us, myself included, are members of IPMS/USA.  We've talked about becoming an official chapter of the national organization, but some questions have come up.  There are several clubs across the state that say they are chapters of IPMS/USA, but aren't listed on the organization's directory of chapters; does anyone know why that is?  Bigger and more important, what are the benefits to the club of becoming an IPMS/USA chapter?  Can someone provide some insight?

BTW, anyone living in the Lansing, MI, vicinity, the Capital Area Scale Modeling Society (C.A.M.S.) meets the 1st Thursday of the month from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Capital Area District Library main branch, 401 S. Capital Ave., Lansing.  Our next meeting is Thursday, April 7.  Call 517-323-3312 for more information.

Benefits - Your chapter will be listed on the IPMS website (assuming you've completed the Chapter Charter process) and that helps interested modelers locate chapters in their areas.  The Regional Coordinator can help you to plan and execute your annual chapter contest, should your group decide to host one. Possessing a chapter charter allows your chapter to apply for insurance coverage of the type of event described above.

In short, being a chartered chapter (literally) puts you on the map.

Thanks for the basic info, Dick.  But it emphasizes the first question, why would other chapters in the state identify themselves as IPMS/USA chapters and not be listed on the national list of chapters (https://ipmsu28.wildapricot.org/page-18051)?

Looking at https://ipmsu28.wildapricot.org/page-18051 and https://ipmsusa.org/chapter-map?title=&region=All&state=MI , I count six active Chapters on each.  There are a couple Chapters in the WA system that have lapsed and are no longer active.

Eric has most likely identified the issue. Either the clubs have not updated their profiles via Wild Apricot or those chapters are no longer registered as IPMS chapters.

The confusion only deepens - using https://ipmsu28.wildapricot.org/page-18051 and typing "Michigan" into the search, I only find the West Michigan and Mid-Michigan clubs; going to  https://ipmsusa.org/chapter-map?title=&region=All&state=MI I do indeed find 6 clubs.  So, it looks like the other 4 clubs haven't update the wildapricot page.  But thanks for the info.  We'll talk over becoming a chapter next month.

You need to use the Advanced Search link https://ipmsu28.wildapricot.org/page-18051?&tab=2 and do this (see screenshot)
