ghodges
Snuck a build in for myself while working on the 1/32 HK B-17E (see "builds" forum for that one). This is the Monogram 1/48 Skyraider built as an AD-4 in Korea. Folded the wings, otherwise OOTB. Payload and markings done to make the one on the cover of the "In Action" Skyraider book. Oh....and the one wing fold connector rod I forgot to paint is done now! Nothing to write home about, but a fun little diversion! Mark Deliduka
I like it! I'd sure be writing home about that if it were mine! That looks stunning!
Stikpusher
Nice work on the backdate of the Monogram Able Dog. Did you replace the large wing pylons that are on the fixed portion of the wing, outboard of the wheel wells, or modify the kit parts to the earlier configuration? BWScholten
Very nice
ghodges
I replaced the outer wing pylons with the smaller ones from the Monogram Panther kit, but merely modified the kit inner pylons. I did sand down the armored panels on the fuselage sides a bit, but didn't worry about obliterating them. Gil
Stikpusher
Thanks for the info Gil. Been wanting to do the same sort of project.
ghodges
Some other differences..(and I just copied the illustration on the cover of the book for the most part): only 1 gun in each wing, and no pitot on the upper fin (don't know where it SHOULD be). I also used the kit cockpit without worrying about any accuracy issues as this is just to get one more out of the stash and onto my shelf! Lastly, I've been told that the wing support struts SHOULD actually connect from the wings to the fuselage sides, and NOT into the top of the wings.... You may want to pay more attention to accuracy than I did for your build.... Gil Edited November 30, 2021 by ghodges
cheveuxroux
Looks really nice to me! I don't know enough about variants, but the first image that came to mind was a scene in the movie Bridges at Toko-Ri as the carrier was being maneuvered in port using the Skyraiders
Stikpusher
Thanks for all the pointers on the conversion Gil. Bob, that is one of my favorite movies! Have it on Blue Ray. And thanks for posting that clip. The aviation and aircraft footage in the movie are still second to none. Great stuff!
