Masks for judges at the Nats??

Recommended Posts

I think this thread has now run its course with the lengthy debate posts. It made interesting reading it nothing else. At least it managed to remain civil despite very differing opinions being aired.

However, regardless of any opinions, personal or otherwise, the bottom line is IPMS has to conform with National, Local and Venue requirements with regard to mask wearing.I

It will be interesting what restrictions if any will be in place if IPMS UK Scale Modelworld Telford runs in November. We will just have to wait and see!

It is as simple as the fact the NCC cannot predict the future. It is impossible to know what the local as well as the hotels guidelines will be next month. So, plan on it being that they will be required.

Sorry to hear that you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a mask. It sounds like this could have been a better conversation privately with the committee or asking your physician for a possible temporary o2 tank or something.

If judging is the only reason you are going to nationals then I don't know what to say. Maybe that there are a lot of great things that you can do there aside from judging?

I have no dog in this fight, as I’m not likely going to the Nationals this year. But as of this weekend, the regional health officials are recommending masks be worn again due to rising COVID case numbers. No mask mandates have been issued yet, but be prepared. So any folks planning to go had best add a mask to their packing list.

And now the reply is moot.

"The order cited the Southern Nevada Health District’s Friday recommendation that everyone — regardless of vaccination status — wear masks in crowded indoor spaces in response to a rise in local COVID-19 cases and an increased positivity rate."

(from LV Review-Journal)

If the Delta variant is really getting this bad out west, maybe we should all reconsider attending and not contribute to the spread.... this will be a call I will personally make as this develops over the next few weeks.

I will have to see what the science is with the contractibility with the Delta variant among those vaccinated. There are breakthrough cases in the news with those vaccinated. 99% of cases are those who are not vaccinated

Tuesday 745 pm CDT

Just finished watching the Clark County Commissioners hearing on the recommendation by the Southern Nevada Health District.  Enacted:

1)  Effective 2400 on Wednesday all employees indoors in public spaces will be required to wear masks.  (i.e. to model desired behavior)

2)  Large venues (casinos, resorts) will provide to the commissioners, NLT 0800 Monday morning, their plans for masking on their facilities.   These facilities who are licensed by the gaming board are not under the direct rules of the commission.  They can mandate masking on their facility premises.   Both the Chamber of Commerce and Resort Association spoke in favor of masking all persons indoors in public spaces.

3) Masking signage will be installed by 2400 Wednesday

4)  This ordnance will expire at 2400 on 8/17/21 [i.e. the day before the show starts].   It may be re-evaluated on or before that date and revised, expanded, or extended.

Plan accordingly

Like I said before trying to be pragmatic......Keep a mask in your back pocket, just in case!

LA just reinstituted the mask requirement.  I haven't tossed my masks just yet.  Washed and ready to go in the bag.  May choose to wear one regardless.  We are bringing in exposures to variants from all over the country.

Ya know...that's really ALL you had to say.

But thanks for the diatribe, bud.

I think a lengthy reply was required to respond to the barrage of baloney.

Neither the NCC nor I in particular, plan to insist on any masking requirements that are stricter than any local standards in effect during the course of our 2021 convention.

In a step beyond the prior recommendations for masking by the Clark County commission, the State of Nevada has re-imposed masking requirements for both vaccinated and unvaccinated persons in public settings.

Mask mandate returns to Nevada for public indoor settings - Las Vegas Sun News

Plan accordingly.

The NCC in a Zoom meeting addressed our plans on how we will perform our judging duties this year.   Things may have gotten easier with this latest news

I'd really like to hear what Bob & the Convention Committee has on this

Latest from the CDC on the Delta variant. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated.html  I plan on wearing a mask.  Not as a political statement, but for the same reason I would wear a bandage if I had a cut. I am 71 and fully vaccinated, but prudent use of any health aid where there is a risk of severe illness or injury is common sense.

End of discussion. Everyone needs to look at the latest update on the 2021 Las Vegas website. Effective July 31st Nevada is putting the mask mandate back into play. Everyone has to wear a mask in the in-door setting. So mask up boys.

Any ideas on what the impact is going too be in attendance? Just curious. I will attend and abide by what ever regulations are set by staff.

I think it will negatively impact attendance from the eastern parts of the country. I know of 5 who have now definitely cancelled, and 3 others on the fence.

Will it massively impact attendance? Who knows, I don't. I would expect perhaps a 10% no show rate of the 600 or so pre-registered.

I am vaccinated and I will wear a mask at all times. My current anxiety is that, with Nevada on the rise and my state ( New York) fairly low now, our Governor will impose quarantine on anyone returning to NYS from Nevada. I could not expect my partner to work alone another 10 days after being alone while I am in Las Vegas. We will have to wait and see. Nick

Nick I really hope that this fear does not come to fruition. Like you I am vaccinated and will bring masks but am fearful that the powers that be will throw us a curve ball at the last minute. Looking forward to seeing (most) of your smiling face at the 'Nats!

Best,

Pat Donahue
