wdedig
I had some damage to my Monogram P-40 in my Pearl Harbor collection so I decided to Replace with Airfix P-40 in 1/48. This is one very nice Kit. Built mostly out of box except Gun Sight,Uschi Antenna and Eduard Seatbelt. Really enjoyed this kit and fit was mostly great with a few areas only needing a little sanding and dry fitting. Painted with Vallejo Air colors OD and Neutral Grey. Over-coated with Future for Gloss and decanted Dullcoat for final finish. Used some Tamiya weathering powders to "dirty her up". Kit decals were great and no problems. I used gloss black on Props and buffed with Uschi Chrome powder. Hollowed out exhaust and gun barrels with no issues . Thanks for Looking and Comments Welcome Cheers Bill D 6

ghodges
Sweet looking P-40! I like the very restrained weathering, as the pre-war planes were quite well maintained. I've got one of these but have yet to tackle it. Glad to hear that it's mostly trouble free. Thanks for sharing! Gil

HighWycombe
Hello Bill - Beautiful build - unreal, actually. I'm finishing up a Hobbycraft P-40B - similar (Pearl defender) - for the antennas: E-Z line? Sprue? Something else? Your work is my "reference photo" - so am curious about your approach. Thanks - Jim PS - Just uploaded her current state - flat coat coming after the antenna install. Edited November 10, 2022 by HighWycombe

ghodges
Not to highjack the thread, but JIM, what did you use for your gloss coat? Having a tough time getting mine as shiny as yours whatever I use. Thanks! Gil
HighWycombe
Thanks Mark! Very kind comment. Hobbycraft produced some decent kits - Spartan directions for sure. I had fun with this one - after a nightmarish build: old Revell USS Saratoga kit - the huge kit. Gil - I switched a few years ago to Alclad II Lacquer - Gloss Klear Kote. Goes on real nice - no thinner at 20 PSI. I used Future for a long time but got tired of the dodgy finish it gave me - uneven. Of course, it is user error but I read enough online about the Alclad product to make the switch. So far, so good. Still use my old stash of Model Master Acrylic Flat for a matte finish. All the best, Jim
