Gun opening “boots” on turrets

Recommended Posts

I need to simulate the ? canvas flexible boots or covers that protect the front of the turret where the gun comes through- in 1/700 scale. Any suggestions? Thanks. Nick Filippone

Typical choice is white glue and tissue paper.    Make a papier-mâché type slurry and sculpt it in place.  Paint as desired.

I have recently been introduced to Vallejo’s putty in their typical dropper bottle.   I have been thinking about applications other than seams.   The stuff is bright white but can be colored with paint mixed in.   It’s thick and could be brush sculpted in place.  Sculpt with damp brush or toothpick

My "go to" method for something like that is using a two part epoxy putty/clay such as Aves Apoxie Sculpt, Magic Sculpt or Kneadatite.

I used shrink tubing like for electrical wiring. Shrink one end for the barrel and leave other end to go into the turret. You can buy it on amazon in various sizes for all scales. They come in colors. I used white on my Bismarck. You can even still move the barrels.

Here is a photo of the Bismarck I did.
