TheRealMrEd
Well, as noted in the build thread HERE: Here are the final pics of the B-17 that started to be converted to a YB-40, but ended up as the XB-40, something you may not have seen much of before! Thanks for looking. See you next time, Ed
Bradley25mm
Ed, That is one sharp looking B-17. Love the way that you painted it. The camo job is just the right amount. The rudder, elevator, and trim tabs look really cool being different colors. Congratulations! Regards Christopher
RGronovius
It is beautiful. Is the camouflage paint scheme a purposeful one they use or a factor of repainting areas of the aircraft that received repair?
TheRealMrEd
Hi Rob, After a discussion over on WWII Aircraft HERE It seemed that the darker paint was just touch-up here and there, mostly after mods, and NOT any attempt at camouflage. Thanks for your kind comment. Ed

TheRealMrEd
Thanks for the kind remarks. Interestingly, the B-17 was the first model I made as an adult. As a kid, I had stopped around 1961. In 1969, I was watching "12 O'Clock High" on TV, and darned if I didn't have to run out an by and old Revell B-17 kit and started back modeling. I know all about gettin' the B-17 on... Ed

Ed I remember buying a B-17 kit that had opening bomb bay doors, but the bombs were molded in place; just a pair of them visible. I think it was the Memphis Belle and I think it was by Revell, but might have been a Lindberg kit. This would have been early to mid 70s. EDIT: eBay search and it was the Revell Belle. I know I eventually got a B-17 made by MPC which was a reissued Airfix kit with a bunch of ground crew figures that was way superior.
MarkYoungCrewChief
Very nicely done. For many years I have wanted to do one in 1/48th. Have the kit, have the conversion, have the get around to it-ness - eh, not yet. Edited September 27, 2019 by MarkYoungCrewChief Left out some stuff.
