Has Model Cars Magazine finally gone to the wall?

Their forum is up and running, but of course that could continue long after the demise of the magazine.

On their website the Big Kahuna  has spoken!  Still adamant that mcm  will carry on.  Difficult to see how any one can run a commercial model making magazine as a one man band.

Has Model Cars Magazine gone under?       Heard nothing about it recently.

Thanks for the update. I learnt that Harry Pristovnik passed away some time ago and he was MCM's main layout man. Harry I believe did most if not all  of the work to put that magazine together when he was alive. I think that this is manifesting itself in the magazine's failure over the last 2 or 3 years and subscribers have lost confidence as deliveries have become all but non existant.

There have been 3 recent enquiries about issue 206 on the MCM forum, and all were locked very quickly and posters referred to contact the editor Gregg Hutchings directly instead.

Latest is that 206 finally made it to print! A contest issue of just photos and captions I believe.

Any auto modeller interested in what has been going down at Model Cars Magazine needs to have a look in the Scale Motorcars website in the general section. Lots of interesting discussion to read up to the point where a moderator stepped in and blocked further posts.

I dunno about their magazine and whether it's been cancelled or not but I do like the forum. There's a lot of very talented builders over there and I learn all sorts of stuff. That's pretty much my "go-to" site for learning on auto models.

Maybe MCM will survive. Maybe not. It was struggling anyway when times were ok in the world, so whether current circumstances will create a perfect storm for it we will have to see. As I see it many specialist hobby magazines soon will be struggling as all depend on disposable income, as just about anyone else does in the hobby trade.

I believe that a switch to online subscriptions or free with ads may be the savior especially with the pandemic and people staying at home.  A  virtual magazine can be wonderful, people can upload their work.  Good way to save wood pulp and the environment too.  One of the reasons we are in this pandemic mess is the destruction of the buffer zone between man and animal.

regardless of the method of presentation, the magazine requires being "made". I think the other obstacles are an excuse for that not being done. even the ardent supporters lament coverage of 2 year old contests.

sometimes it's just "time", ya know? it doesn't always equate with what we want, but denial can only go so far. reality always wins.

used to work with a fellow who told the story of "Thought".

Thought was brought up on the gallows.

Thought didn't think he was going to be hung.

but he was.

I think that the MCM forum has all but replaced the paper magazine. Last I heard was that issue 207 was in preparation. Did it eventually make it to print?

Latest reported on the MCM website is that a new associate editor named Larry Greenberg has been appointed. The name may be known to some of you American car modellers possibly?

Heard nothing substantial since my last post. Larry Greenberg has placed an update on the MCM website but not announced any date in it when the magazine will be produced and go back on sale. He has a bit of an uphill struggle on his hands as the magazine has to rebuild confidence both to its subscribers and advertisers.

MCM has made it back to print under Larry Greenberg! Maybe it will manage to get back on track and pick up extra readers now that Scale Auto has ceased publication. Despite my scepticism in the past, I hope that Larry makes a success of it.
