Ron Bell
The HMA(A for Australian)S Cerberus was the first British ship built whose only motive power was steam. A breastwork monitor refers to that first deck up, which is behind a "breastwork" of armor. Her main armament were four rifled muzzle loading 10" guns, mounted in two Coles turrets. She was launched in 1870 and had a long career in many guises including that of a submarine tender and artificial breakwater. The latter also denotes her fate as she was sunk off Half Moon Bay as an artificial breakwater. She still exists today and there have been several campaigns to re-store her, she being the only surviving monitor. If you've never done a Kombrig kit, they are very nicely done. The resin pours are perfect with no pin holes, short castings or flash. This is a relatively simple kit with only six major parts, but a good assortment of some itsy-bitsy, teeny-tiny detail parts. I added some generic PE railings and stretched sprue rigging. You can see by the photo with the Quarter what her true size is.
